Lovelock softball underway

McDougal Park is full of softball players again. By the end of summer each team will have played 17 games. As long as they persevere, they're bound to improve. There is no teacher like experience.

Battle Mountain’s Holman wins state title in pole bending

Italy Jo Holman from the Battle Mountain High School Rodeo Club took home the state championship in the pole bending at the Nevada State Finals Rodeo in Winnemucca over the Memorial Day weekend.

Battle Mountain NNA swim team competes at 2023 Intermountain Classic

The Battle Mountain NNA swim team was in Carson City over the Memorial Day weekend for the 2023 Intermountain Classic. Nevaeh Serna won seven events over the weekend in the girls 10-12-year-old-division, including the 100-meter butterfly in a time of 1 minute, 30.49 seconds, a 7.22-second improvement.

Eight Lowry softball players collect all-league, all-state honors

A number of Lowry High School softball players earned all-league and all-state honors for their play this spring. The Lady Bucks reached the state championship game in Mesquite, losing 9-3 to North Valleys and finished the year at 27-10.

UNLV football to Make CBS debut as part of National TV release

UNLV football will appear on CBS for the first time in history and then be found on FOX networks, ESPN networks and CBS Sports Network at various points this fall as national television selections were announced in conjunction with the Mountain West and other conferences.

Six Wolf Pack games set for network broadcast in 2023

Six Nevada Football contests this fall will air on national networks, as the 2023 television schedule was announced Wednesday. Season tickets for 2023 Nevada Football are on sale now, and available by visiting MyNevadaTickets.com, calling (775) 348-PACK, or by visiting the ticket office located in Lawlor Events Center Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sweet news for the Mustang softball team

Good news continues to roll in for the PCHS softball program. They were recently notified that five players made the all-state team. Aaliyah Allen, Taylor Garland and Kaylen Halverson are on the 1st Team. Mady Grenz and Anna Happy are on the second team.

Lovelock Adult Softball is back

They're not the new kids anymore. The Lovelock Softball Association launched its sixth season on Monday, Jun. 5. Results were not available at press time but several teams will compete throughout the long, hot summer.

Lowry football team finishes off two weeks of spring practice

The school year may be ending but the Lowry High School football team is getting ready for the 2023 season with two weeks of spring practice. The Buckaroos will have summer workouts and start the new season at the end of July. Lowry opens the 2023 schedule at Columbia (Nampa, Idaho) on Aug. 18 and another road trip to Hug on Aug. 25. The home debut is set for Sept. 8 against Sparks.

Grab your running shoes, walking shoes, or just your regular shoes. Head over to the Pershing County High School sports complex. The Mustang 5K is this Friday, June 9 from 7-8:30 p.m.

Gail Piquet shot a low gross s core of 95 to win the first flight of the Winnemucca Ladies Golf Club Accuracy tournament held Tuesday, May 30, at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course.

Huntley Byrd wins state title in junior high pole bending

Humboldt County’s Huntley Byrd earned the pole bending state championship this season in the junior high division of the Nevada High School Rodeo Association. She will be headed to the National Junior High School Rodeo Finals in Perry, Ga., from June 18-24 in three events.

Billy DeLong earns all-around cowboy honors, wins two state titles on home turf in Winnemucca

The Humboldt County Rodeo Club took home a couple state championships, as the club hosted the Nevada State Finals Rodeo in Winnemucca from May 25-29 at the Winnemucca Event Center. Billy DeLong ran away with the all-around cowboy honors for the year and was the state champion in saddle bronc, steer wrestling, the reserve champion in boys cutting and was fourth in steer wrestling.

NFL expects fewer kickoff returns with new fair catch rule inside 25

The NFL has pushed the kickoff return further toward irrelevance with a priority on player safety. The existence of the kickoff itself remains under careful review.
