Eight Lowry softball players collect all-league, all-state honors

A number of Lowry High School softball players earned all-league and all-state honors for their play this spring. 

The Lady Bucks reached the state championship game in Mesquite, losing 9-3 to North Valleys and finished the year at 27-10.

Churchill County’s Lydia Bergman and Kasey Chu swept the Northern 3A East honors as Player of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively.

Lowry’s Savannah Stoker (infield), Megan Cook (outfield) and Bree Dunckhorst (pitcher) were named to the Northern 3A first team.

Stoker, a junior, set the single-season Nevada home run record with 21 and drove in 60 runs. She hit .483 this season with 58 hits, 57 runs scored, 10 doubles and three triples.

Lowry's Savannah's Stoker was named to the Northern 3A East, Northern 3A and 3A all-state first team.

 In addition, she was 5-1 in the pitching circle, with a 3.40 ERA. She struck out 87 batters and walked 36.

Cook hit .381 this spring, with 48 hits, 36 runs scored, 37 RBI, 14 doubles, three triples and two home runs.

Dunckhorst went 13-6 in the circle this season with a 3.75 ERA, with 171 strikeouts and 68 walks. 

Lowry's Bree Dunckohorst was named to the Northern 3A East, Northern 3A and 3A all-state first team.

The remainder of the Northern 3A first team included: Addison Seipp (infield, Elko), Cheyenne Clayson (infield, Dayton), Reece Hutchings (infield, Churchill County), Taylor Tollestrup (infield, Fernley). Avii Robles (utility, Elko), Kylie Harris (outfield, Spring Creek), Nadia Velazquez (outfield, Fernley), Kiley Wallace (outfield, Churchill County) and Vernita Fillmore (pitcher, Churchill County).

Lowry’s Shelbie Hoyt (infield), Maddison McClure (infield) and Jada Matheny (utility) were named to the Northern 3A East second team.

Hoyt was second on the team with four home runs and hit .475 with 57 hits, 50 runs scored, 36 RBI, 13 doubles and three triples.

McClure, the Lady Bucks’ catcher, hit .322 with 28 hits, 22 RBI, 19 runs scored, eight doubles and three home runs.

Jada Matheny

Matheny batted .313 with 31 hits, 27 runs scored, 27 RBI, two doubles, two triples and a home run.

The second team was rounded out with Dana Micone (infield, Dayton), Alyson Clarke (infield, Spring Creek), Sara Moffett (infield, Fernley), Ciara Pritchard (outfield, Fernley), Dana Buckmaster (outfield, Churchill County), Kallista Crouch (outfield, Elko), Ashlynn Sorenson (outfield, Spring Creek), Taylor Hunton (pitcher, Elko) and LaSade Conti (pitcher, Elko).

Lowry’s Cambria Tisue and Natalya Guizar were named to the Northern 3A East honorable mention squad. Tisue hit .260 with 26 hits, 31 runs scored and 19 RBI. Guizar hit .311 with 28 hits, 28 runs score3d, 26 RBI, four doubles, a triple and home run.

North Valleys’ Eric McCuskey was named the Northern 3A Coach of the Year and Bergman and North Valleys’ Brittney Byram shared the Player of the Year honors.

Stoker, Cook and Dunckhorst were named to the Northern 3A first team. The first team included Clayson, Hutchings, Tollestrup, Robles, Wallace, Velazquez, Fillmore, Abegail Byram (North Valleys) and Karli Klein (North Valleys).

The second team included: Ciarra Foakes (infield, Wooster), Seipp (infield, Elko), Staci Davis (infield, North Valleys), Jordan Gainey (infield, North Valleys), Lola Robie (utility, North Valleys), Harris (outfield, Spring Creek), Khloe Glover (outfield, Wooster), Kiva Davis (outfield, South Tahoe), Kelsee Grow (outfield, North Valleys), Hunton (pitcher, Elko) and Lillian Lafontaine (pitcher, North Valleys).

Stoker and Dunckhorst were named to the all-state first team and Cook was selected to the all-state second team.

McCuskey was named the 3A Coach of the Year and Brittany Byrum and Virgin Valley’s Riley price were the Players of the Year.
