They're not the new kids anymore. The Lovelock Softball Association launched its sixth season on Monday, Jun. 5.

Results were not available at press time but several teams will compete throughout the long, hot summer.

In 2018, Jim's Point S won the first-ever LSA championship. Daphne and Trevor Gurley started the LSA that summer. In 2019, Jared Jensen took over as president and Thick N Wild won the first of their four titles. They remain the defending champions.

Other teams include the Smokin' Aces, Modelo Time, U.S. Silica, Weekend Warriors, Goyo's Garage, Brew Crew and the Wolf Pack. It's not unusual to see whole families playing together.

Many team members have been with the league going on six seasons and it shows in the level of competition.

High school baseball and softball players and recent grads add spark to the games. However, people of all ages show up ready to play.

For 2023, the board members are Phillip Schmith (president), Amanda Holland, Sean Luna, Brian Smokey, Tommy Meyers and Tiffany Rhodes.

"We are trying really hard to improve the existing facilities. We are all volunteers and it gets difficult at times but we are trying our best," said Schmith.

The games take place at 6, 7, and 8 p.m. every Monday and Thursday evening. The season runs from June 5 through Aug. 3.
