The Battle Mountain NNA swim team was recently in Reno for the Silver State Championships, a home meet for the club that is based out of Reno. Temperatures rose to 105 degrees but high winds and lightning played havoc with the championships All of the preliminary races were held but just one final was completed and prelim times carried over to the finals.
It has been years in the making with hard work and set backs but the dream for Battle Mountain’s Devin Huhta is here, as he is competing at the USA Paralympics Track and Field Trials in Miramar, Fla.
The long high school rodeo season is hitting an end with the beginning of the National High School Finals Rodeo in Rock Springs, Wyo., on Sunday. The rodeo runs through July 20, with the top 20 finals. A number of cowboys and cowgirls from the Humboldt County and Battle Mountain rodeo clubs will compete.

The Battle Mountain NNA swim team began its long course season for the summer at the 2024 Intermountain Classic LC Swim Meet in Carson City from May 24-26. There were a lot of time improvements and coach Hall was pleased with the first meet of the summer season. Beckett and Barrett Buffington competed in their first long-course meet.
In his final meet of his high school career, Battle Mountain High School’s Blake Stuart won the 2A triple jump at the NIAA State Track and Field Championships this past weekend at Carson High School in Carson City. Stuart came into the finals second in the seeding, but saved his best for last with a personal-best leap of 41 feet, 8.75 inches.
The Battle Mountain High School baseball team rounded out its season this past Friday in Tahoe City, Calif., with a doubleheader against North Tahoe. The Lakers won the opener 5-2, with the Longhorns bouncing back to win the season finale 7-6. Battle Mountain concluded the year at 6-19 overall and 5-18 in the Northern 2A.
The Battle Mountain High School softball team finished off the regular season in style with a pair of wins this past Friday in Tahoe City, Calif., securing its spot in the Northern 2A Regional Championships.
The postseason is underway for the Battle Mountain High School track and field team, with the Longhorns traveling to Red High School in Sparks this past Saturday for the Northern 2A Trials.
Battle Mountain senior Blake Stuart wrapped the regular season by winning the long jump at the Don and Lynda Walton Invitational this past Saturday at Lowry High School in Winnemucca. He had a leap of 19 feet, 9 inches. In addition, Stuart placed third in the triple jump at 38-9 and the high jump (5-10).
The Battle Mountain High School baseball team suffered three losses on the road to Yerington this past weekend. The Lions won the opener 15-2 on Friday and swept the doubleheader on Saturday 5-0 and 8-3.
The Battle Mountain High School softball team inched closer to a spot in the Northern 2A Regional Championship, May 10-11, in Lovelock. Battle Mountain knocked off Yerington 16-5 on Friday afternoon in Yerington, with the Lions bouncing back to sweep Saturday’s doubleheader 11-9 and 6-5. The Lady Longhorns stand at 9-9 in league play.
The Battle Mountain High School baseball team was back on the road this past weekend to face league-leading West Wendover. The Wolverines held on to the top spot in the Northern 2A, sweeping three games from the Longhorns.
It was a busy three days for the Battle Mountain High School softball team with five games in that span. Battle Mountain hosted Pershing County on Thursday for a pair of games that was postponed early in April. The Mustangs remained perfect on the year winning 11-1 and 16-3.
The Battle Mountain High School track and team rolled to the team titles at Friday’s Eureka Invitational with a number of strong individual performances. Battle Mountain senior Andy Wall swept the top spot in both hurdle events, setting personal bests in both. He stopped the watch at 16.4 in the 100-meter hurdles and 45.8 in the 300-meter hurdles.
