Battle Mountain split matches with Oasis Academy, Yerington

The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team remained in the hunt for a playoff berth in the Northern 2A with a split of two matches against Oasis Academy and Yerington this past weekend. Oasis Academy grabbed the first set on Friday in Fallon 25-20, when Battle Mountain rallied for three straight wins at 25-19, 35-9 and 26-24.

Battle Mountain girls golf team concludes regular season on home course

The weather was perfect last Thursday at Mountain View Golf Course, as the Battle Mountain High School girls golf team concluded the regular season on its home course. Virginia City claimed the team title, with a four-player score of 424 and White Pine placed as the runner-up at 471.

Longhorn cross country team busy with two meets in Reno and Sparks

The Battle Mountain High School cross country team found its way to the Reno/Sparks area twice last week. The Longhorns were in Sparks and Reed High School this past Friday for the Reed Invitational at Shadow Mountain Park.

Battle Mountain blanks West Wendover for first win

It was a happy homecoming for the Battle Mountain High School girls soccer team, who picked up its first win of the season with a 5-0 rout of West Wendover on Friday in Battle Mountain for homecoming.

Late rally falls short as Incline beats Battle Mountain

The last time the Incline High School football team traveled to Battle Mountain, it was for the opening round of the NIAA 2A State Championships. The Highlanders pulled off a shocking win on that night, scoring on a long touchdown pass in the final seconds to beat the Longhorns 21-16. The two squads saw each other once again this past Friday, as part of Battle Mountain’s homecoming.

Battle Mountains drops two Northern 2A matches

The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team started the second half of the Northern 2A schedule on its home floor last weekend, as the school celebrated homecoming. It was not the start Battle Mountain was looking for, as Incline won in four sets on Friday night 25-12, 25-17, 19-25 and 25-23.

Battle Mountain NNA swim team competes in Donner Drip in Truckee

Seven swimmers from the Battle Mountain NNA swim team were in Truckee on Saturday, Sept. 14, for the Donner Dip. Five-year-old Ryker Serna Torrence made his swimming debut, after starting in June. Zayne Hall is in his senior year and has not completed in over a year but did great. It was Nevaeh Serna’s first meet in the 13–14-year-old age group and she held her own winning the 200 backstroke by four seconds.

Battle Mountain soccer round-up —

The Battle Mountain High School boys soccer team traveled to Spring Creek on Tuesday, Sept. 17, and suffered a 15-0 loss to the Spartans. The squad is 0-8 on the season. The Longhorns have three home matches this week as part of homecoming. Battle Mountain hosted Churchill County on Tuesday and results were not available at press time. Battle Mountain takes on West Wendover on Friday at 11 a.m. and White Pine on Saturday at 10 a.m.

What was to be a long Saturday trip to Tahoe City Calif., turned into an extra day off before Battle Mountain hosts Incline for homecoming on Friday night. North Tahoe’s football field and stadium was not ready for play this week and the Lakers traveled to Battle Mountain on Thursday night.

BMHS cross country team runs in Fernley, Elko

The Battle Mountain High School cross country team made the short trip to Elko this past Friday for the Run the Rubies Cross Country Invitational at the Powerhouse Picnic Area.

Lady Longhorns drop two road matches

It was a tough weekend for the Battle Mountain High School volleyball team, as they hit the road for the first time in September after hosting four straight Northern 2A matches. Battle Mountain was in Lovelock on Friday night to take on league-leading Pershing County. Even though each of the three sets were close, the Mustangs won 25-18, 25-19, 25-22.

Barto wins barrel racing average at White Pine rodeo

The Nevada High School Rodeo Association made its second stop of the fall season in Ely on Sept. 7-8 for the White Pine rodeo. Humboldt County’s Brynn Barto led the way in the barrel racing average with a time of 34.933 seconds. She won the first performance at 17.339 and was the runner-up in the second performance.

Battle Mountain falls to Dayton in non-league play

The Battle Mountain High School football team dropped a 28-6 decision to Dayton on Friday night at Tim Knight Field in Battle Mountain.

Battle Mountain splits with Silver Stage, Sierra Lutheran

The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team came away with a split of two Northern 2A matches this past weekend at home and sit at 4-3 in league play. “The matches were fought hard this weekend as we tried out a new rotation as we are nearing the down slide of our season,” said BMHS coach Julia Ramirez. “We are working at utilizing more hitters on the net.”

BMHS splits four Northern 2A matches

The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team picked up two wins in four matches over a two-week stretch, with three of those matches against the tougher teams in the Northern 2A. Battle Mountain traveled to Incline on Aug. 30, and lost in three sets. The Lady Longhorns took the Highlanders to the max in the opening set but lost 26-24. Incline closed out the day, winning the final two sets 25-19 and 25-12. Senior Stevlana Martinez led the way with five kills and five blocks, with Addison Matheus adding two kills.
