Gary M Ellifritz

Gary M Ellifritz passed away on January 20, 2024, in Winnemucca, Nevada. He was born on November 11, 1955, in Winnemucca, Nevada to Mary Lou and Don Ellifritz. He was born and raised in Winnemucca alongside his siblings, Donnie, Mary Lynn, Mike and Jeff. He left in the mid 70’s to adventure. He returned to Winnemucca and met Chrissy Casalez. They two spent ten years together before marrying in 2005. They shared a total of almost 30 years together. He worked for Transwood trucking for many years, he drove over 2.5 million miles. Gary loved racing – from watching NASCAR to participating in stock car racing. He was nicknamed Mr. D.I.L.L.I.G.A.F. and he caused hate, hell and discontent wherever he went. Shannon Marie Adler

Shannon Marie Adler passed away on January 21, 2024, at Humboldt General Hospital, after a short illness. She was born on July 12, 1954, in San Antonio, Texas to Harold Jay and Margaret Mary Zimmerer (nee-Crowley). She graduated from Northglenn High School in Northglenn, Colorado. She married the love of her life in April of 1983, John Jr Adler. The two shared 2 children, Karin and Sara and 32 years together. The family moved to Winnemucca in 1989, where they planted their roots. In Winnemucca, Shannon worked at the Model T Hotel and Casino for 22 years. She absolutely loved it and she was the mother to everyone who worked there always giving support and guidance. After John’s passing in 2015, she started attending the Word of Light Fellowship and it became a very large part of her life. She was also a very active member of the Senior Center. …

Melvin B Howard Jr.

Melvin B. Howard Jr., 79, passed away on January 22nd, 2024 surrounded by his family and a few darn good friends. Known to most of the community as “Buddy” but also a variety of other nicknames such as Bud, Budwin, Budweiser, Bro, Pops, Papa, Grandpa Buddy, and Dad. Buddy was born on April 20th, 1944, in Hollywood, California to Marian and Melvin B. Howard Sr. Buddy graduated from Humboldt County High School in Winnemucca, Nevada in 1963 where he met the love of his life, Delphine Bengoa. He then attended Boise Junior College for two years and received his business associate degree. Buddy was a member of the National Guard for many years in his twenties. Buddy and Delphine married shortly after they graduated high school at the Catholic Church in Winnemucca in 1966. Frank P Gomez

Frank P. Gomez was born October 4, 1942, in Ogden, Utah, the fourth child of Joe and Rosie Gomez. He passed away suddenly on January 19, 2024, at the age of 81. He married the love of his life Arline Krupp on December 23, 1965. Frank and Arline had two daughters Corinna and Ann. Frank was a long-time miner, working in the industry for more than 48 years. He was employed by Carlin Gold, Pinson, Marigold, Santa Fe Pacific, and Newmont Mines. He was also a volunteer police officer for the City of Carlin for more than 12 years. In his younger years he did a variety of jobs from line cook, fire fighter and gas station attendant. Daddy’s true passion and love was Arline, his kids, grandkids, and family. He coached both girls’ in softball, even into adulthood and followed all the kids and grandkids sports and activities. He …

Don E Grobrick

Don E. Grobrick June 2, 1959 – January 10,2024 It has been a long journey, and well fought battles for Don. He lost the final battle on Wednesday January 10, 2024, after coming home to be at peace. He will be greatly missed by the many lives he touched. He was considered to be a mentor, teacher and good friend by many. Always the one to jump in and help, no matter what the need. If he had it, it was yours for the asking. Don’s positive outlook was a special gift. So much so, it earned him a nick name, Mr. Awesome. When he asked, “how are you doing today?”, his reply was, “I’m awesome”. To keep that attitude through-out his life’s journey was amazing. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alan Jacob Weber (Jake). With his family by his side, he departed this world on January 14, 2024, finding solace and peace after a journey that left an indelible mark on those who knew and loved him. Born on June 22, 1962 to Jake and Valerie Weber, Jake spent most of his time living in Winnemucca, Nevada where he cultivated a deep connection to the community and the breathtaking landscapes that surrounded him. An avid fisherman, skilled hunter, and enthusiastic golfer, Jake's love for the outdoors shaped his character and brought joy to those who shared in his adventures. He loved to sleep under the stars and roam the county roads of Nevada, exploring the canyons and mountainous terrain. His love for these pursuits became a cornerstone of his identity. Tom Gene "Red" Sheppard

On Monday January 15, 2024 T. G. “Red” Sheppard passed from this life having lived long and accomplished much. Red was born July 3, 1924 born to Osborne Lionel and Mary Elizabeth Sheppard in Gridley, California, who were ranching in the area. His early years in California were spent with his best friend and cousin Jack, also a redhead. An itinerant carpenter hired at the ranch took a shine to this industrious young lad and gave him the nickname “Buck.” Thereafter, to the family he was affectionately called “Buckie.” He attended Liberty School and started high school at Gridley High before moving to Nevada. Sisters: Peggy, Patricia, Helen and Louise were born later. In 1939, the family purchased the Zimmershed Ranch in Buena Vista Valley located below Unionville. Laura Noel Cassinelli

Laura Noel Cassinelli was born on Christmas Day 1927 and on January 11, 2024, warm weather parted briefly so that the heavens could welcome her with a blanket of snow across the very city where she was born. Her spirit, endowed to all who knew her, will be carried forth by her four beloved children; David, Jeannie, Tom and Laurie. Her invaluable lessons will be carried on for decades by her 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and countless friends and acquaintances who had the honor of knowing her. Laura was and will forever be a true Nevadan. She was a champion of the Reno/Sparks community for nearly a century. Robin S. Kieber passed away on December 24, 2023, at her home in Winnemucca, Nevada surrounded by her family. She was born on July 23, 1957, in North Dakota to Robert and LaDonna Nelms. Robin married John E. Kieber on November 28, 1975. They shared 48 years and 4 children together: Tim, Kristi, Kaitlin, and Aviana. The family moved to Winnemucca, Nevada in 1992. Here she worked as a manager at the USDA in rural development. She enjoyed gardening and sitting on the patio watching the hummingbirds. She is survived by her husband, John E. Jay "Buzz" McDonald

Jay “Buzz” McDonald, 89, passed away December 25th in Winnemucca, Nevada surrounded by his family. Buzz, as he was known to family and friends, was born on October 10th, 1934 in Hinckley, Utah to Giles and Maud McDonald. Buzz graduated from LDS Seminaries on May 13,1951 and Hinckley High School on May 19th, 1952. Not long after high school he moved to Winnemucca, where he started working for Standard Oil Company. He went on to operate many service stations throughout the years, including the infamous Uncle Buzz’s Mini Mart located inside the Shell Gas Station on Winnemucca Boulevard. During his time here he was very active in the community, he coached little league basketball, revived stock car racing, sold used cars, and was an advisor in the local Humboldt County High School Rodeo Association. Michael Wayne Smith

March 18, 1951 – December 23, 2023 The oldest of four children, Michael was born to Donald & Louise Smith in McPherson, Kansas. His family relocated to Battle Mountain when Michael was middle school age and it became his permanent home. Michael attended Battle Mountain High School and graduated class of 1969. Shortly after, Mike was joined in marriage to Donita Stewart in 1970. As such a loving and kind hearted man, Mike could often be found spending his days surrounded by friends and family. Always up for adventure, Mike loved golfing, hunting, fishing, camping, boating, fixing race cars and so much more. An avid cook and baker, no one ever went hungry when he was around. Joe Boggio Jr.

Joe Boggio Jr., age 85, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2023, at Humboldt General Hospital. He was born on October 20,1938, in Winnemucca, Nevada to Joe and Geraldine Boggio, he was the oldest of their three sons. Joe lived in Paradise Valley and Winnemucca for his entire life. He graduated from in 1957 from Humboldt County High School and then attended Idaho State College and then Oregon Tech. Those two schools made him a full-fledged mechanic. He worked for the 96 Stewart Ranch for a short time and the Division of Forestry as a mechanic for another short period of time. Joe joined the United States Army in 1961. He served in the Motor Pool Division during the time the Berlin Wall went up. He was discharged in 1963. Joe married Meredith A. Davis on February 10, 1963. Jesse was born and raised in Winnemucca, NV during his youth and then lived in Loveland, Colorado during his teenage and adult life. James Harvey Seward

James Harvey Seward was born December 2, 1926 to Harvey and Ester Seward on a small farm in Harrold County, South Dakota. He began his eternal journey with the Lord at the age of 97 on December 13, 2023 at home with family. As a child, he and his siblings helped work the family farm. He attended small country schools from kindergarten through third grade. His remaining school years were attended in Agar, South Dakota. He was active in band, glee club, annual staff, he was his Junior Class secretary, and he played and lettered in basketball. James graduated from Agar High School on May 7, 1944. After high school, he worked on the family farm and other farms in the area for two years.
