Martinez-Calderon, Kuskie wins races at Wells Invitational

It was a good day for the Lowry Cross Country team in Wells this past Friday, as the Buckaroos swept the individual titles in both the girls and boys races. Lowry senior Jovi Kuskie set a new course record on the 5,000-meter Chimney Rock Golf Course at 19 minutes, 15 seconds.  She shattered the old record of 20:18 set by Shelby Dorsal (Elko, 2013). 

Churchill County knocks off Lowry volleyball team in four sets

Coming off two straight wins over Spring Creek and Elko, the Lowry High School volleyball team was looking to keep the momentum going, as it hosted Churchill County on Tuesday, Oct. 12, to start the second half of the Northern 3A East season. When the two schools played the first time in Fallon, Lowry left with a win in five sets.

The Lowry High School boys soccer team headed to Fallon last Thursday, down a number of players in its match-up with Churchill County. The Buckaroos entered the day in a prime spot for one of the three Northern 3A East playoff spots, while the Greenwave were fifth in the league with just one win this season — that coming over winless Dayton.

Lady Bucks notch home win over Greenwave

The Lowry High School girls soccer team started the second half of the Northern 3A East schedule in the total opposite way it started the season. When Lowry played at Fallon in September, the Lady Bucks lost 8-2 to the Greenwave. The two teams got back together on Tuesday, Oct. 12, in Winnemucca, with Lowry winning 3-1 to improve to 5-6-1 overall and 2-4 in the Northern 3A East.

Lowry jumps into playoff hunt with wins over Spring Creek and Elko

Coming off of three losses, including two in league play, last week was pivotal for the Lowry High School volleyball team.  If the losing streak extended, the Lady Bucks’ playoff hopes would take a major hit. Lowry shook off those defeats and found itself back in the hunt for playoff berth in the regional tournament, the first weekend of November in Fallon. Lowry traveled to Spring Creek on Tuesday, Oct. 5, and came home victorious in a five-set thriller.

Lowry splits with Spring Creek, Elko

The Lowry High School boys soccer team kept its playoff chances alive with a split of two matches against Elko County schools last week. Lowry easily knocked off Spring Creek 5-1 on Tuesday, Oct. 5, in Winnemucca, but suffered a 7-2 loss at Elko on Saturday afternoon and are now 4-10 overall and 4-1 in the Northern 3A East. 

Lady Bucks drop 3A league matches to Spartans, Indians

The Lowry High School girls soccer team closed out the first half of the Northern 3A East season against a pair of Elko County rivals. The Lady Bucks fell short in both matches to drop to 4-6-1 overall and 1-4 in the Northern 3A East. Lowry traveled to league-leading Spring Creek on Tuesday, Oct. 5, and lost 7-1. 

Kuskie runs away with individual title at Lowry Invitational

After a steady rain for much of the morning, skies cleared this past Friday for the Lowry Invitational at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course, giving the cross country runners excellent conditions to run into.

Fernley runs past Lowry in Thursday Homecoming match-up

Playing only two games this year, many were unsure what the Lowry High School football team would see in its Thursday Homecoming opponent in Fernley. The Vaqueros, the reigning 3A state champion, played only two games this season, while the Buckaroos had played six. The lack of on field experience didn’t hurt Fernley, in the Vaqueros 45-19 win at Jerry Tobin Field. Lowry dropped to 5-2 on the season and 1-2 in the Northern 3A East and Fernley improved to 2-1 and 1-0 in league play.

Cassinelli, Hayes, Nichols earn first-team, all-league honors

The Lowry High School girls golf team closed out its regular season last week with tournaments in Fernley and Genoa Lakes. The Lady Bucks placed second in Fernley and third in South Tahoe’s Genoa Lakes tournament and earned a berth into the state championships that are taking place in Mesquite next week.

Ladies Golf Club results

Gail Piquet shot a low-net score of 31.5 to win the first flight of the Winnemucca Ladies Golf Cub Eclectic tournament held Tuesday, Oct. 5, at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course. Cassie Morgan was second in the first flight with a round of 34.

Lowry cruises past Dayton

After suffering its first loss the week before, the Lowry High School took out is frustrations on Dayton this past Friday night, beating the Dust Devils 55-6 in Dayton. Except for an early turnover in the first quarter, the Buckaroos scored just about every time they had the ball, building a 48-0 lead midway through the second quarter. 

Cassinelli shoots career-best 80 at Dayton tournament for Lowry girls golf team

The regular season for the Lowry High School girls golf team is quickly coming to an end. The Lady Bucks were back on the course for a pair of tournaments last week and turned in two third-place finishes.

Kuskie wins Reed Invitational cross country meet

The Lowry High School cross country team continued its quest toward the regional championships with a stop in Sparks last Friday for the Reed Invitational. After being near the top of every race this year, Lowry senior Jovi Kuskie pulled out her first win of the season, beating out 64 other runners in the 3.1-mile race on Shadow Mountain Park. Kuskie stopped the clock at 20 minutes, 44 seconds to beat Galena’s Alyssa Bronander by 16 seconds. Bishop Manogue’s Amaya Aramini was third at 21:14.
