Coming off of three losses, including two in league play, last week was pivotal for the Lowry High School volleyball team.
If the losing streak extended, the Lady Bucks’ playoff hopes would take a major hit.
Lowry shook off those defeats and found itself back in the hunt for playoff berth in the regional tournament, the first weekend of November in Fallon.
Lowry traveled to Spring Creek on Tuesday, Oct. 5, and came home victorious in a five-set thriller.
The Spartans claimed set one 25-22, but the Lady Bucks bounced back with an easy 25-16 win in set two.
Spring Creek regained the advantage in set three winning 25-20 and had a chance to close out the match. That did not happen, as Lowry stormed back to win set four 25-14 and complete the comeback, winning set five 15-12.
Lowry sweeps Elko
Lowry improved to 3-2 in the Northern 3A East and 8-7 overall with a 25-20, 25-16 and 25-23 win over Elko on Saturday in Winnemucca.
The Lady Bucks opened up a 7-2 lead in the first set behind two kills from McKenzi Petersen and aces by Megan Cook and Kailey Franklin. That lead did not last long, as Elko went on its own 7-2 run to tie set at 9-9.
The Indians took its first lead at 12-11, only to see the Lady Bucks come back with consecutive points from Alexis Olson on a block and ace to go in front.
Franklin added a kill on the next point and Lowry pushed the advantage to 16-12, forcing an Elko time out.
Petersen and Olson added two more kills late in the set and Kadance Cooney had a kill as well, as Lowry pulled away late for the five-point victory.
The Lady Bucks scored four of the first six points of the second set, but the Indians came back to tie the set at 10 and 11.
After a Lowry time out, it was all the home team, as Franklin, Lyndsee Dove and Cooney had aces and Cambria Tisue added two kills to help the Lady Bucks pull away.
It appeared the match was headed for a fourth set, as Elko raced out to an 11-2 lead in the third set.
An ace by Dove started a run for Lowry, who took the lead at 15-13 after back-to-back kills by Franklin and Cook.
The Indians fought back with a 7-2 run to go back in front at 20-17, when Petersen added two tips to bring Lowry within a point at 21-20.
The Lady Bucks tied the set at 21 on an ace by Dove and tied again at 22 on a kill by Olson.
Lowy completed the comeback with a match-winning kill by Cook at 24-23.
Lowry hosted Churchill County on Tuesday and results were not available at press time. The Lady Bucks are off this weekend and travel to Dayton on Friday, Oct. 22, for a 6 p.m. match.
