Lowry cruises past Dayton

After suffering its first loss the week before, the Lowry High School took out is frustrations on Dayton this past Friday night, beating the Dust Devils 55-6 in Dayton.

Except for an early turnover in the first quarter, the Buckaroos scored just about every time they had the ball, building a 48-0 lead midway through the second quarter. 

The game was played with a running clock for the final three quarters, as Lowry improved to 5-1 on the season and 1-1 in the Northern 3A East.

The Buckaroos scored on their first play from scrimmage, as Braden Hammargren broke free for a 55-yard touchdown, going the distance untouched. Hammargren added the extra point as well.

Giovani Sapien got in the scoring act on the next Lowry drive and after a Buckaroos turnover, Lowry got the ball right back and Jessie Jeronimo added to the lead. Jordan Bills connected with Sapien for a 42-yard touchdown pass at the end of the first quarter to give Lowry a 27-0 lead.

Bills score on the Buckaroos’ first play of the second quarter and moments later Bills connected with Sapien on another touchdown pass to make the score 41-0. Bills scored his second rushing touchdown late in the first half to give Lowry a 48-0 lead with four minutes to go in the second quarter.

Dayton scored its lone touchdown of the night with eight minutes left in the third quarter and Lowry closed out the scoring on a Joe Garcia 8-yard run with a minute left in the contest.

It is Homecoming week for Lowry and the Buckaroos host Fernley on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the final regular season home game of the year. 

Lowry closes out the regular season with road games at Spring Creek (Oct. 15) and Churchill County on Oct. 22.
