Battle Mountain golfers compete at state tournament in Henderson

Members of the Battle Mountain High School boys golf team closed out its season at the NIAA 2A State Championships at Chimera Golf Club in Henderson on May 16-17.

Chopp wins 2A discus title; Ayers runner-up in 400 meters and triple jump

After recovering from an injury at the start of the school year, Battle Mountain High School senior Nolan Chopp closed out his high school career in style by winning the 2A discus this past weekend at the NIAA State Championships at Reed High School in Sparks. Chopp threw a personal-best 137 feet, 11 inches to win the discus by more than 11 feet.  North Tahoe’s Juan Camacho-Morales was second at 126 and Lake Mead’s Caleb King (120-0) and Pershing County’s Brayden Wagner (117-1) were third and fourth, respectively.

Lowry track and field team brings home regional championships

It was a good weekend for the Lowry High School Track and Field Team at the Northern 3A Regional Championships this past weekend at Reed High School in Sparks.  Jovi Kuskie brought home three individual titles in the 800 meters, 1,600 meters and 3,200 meters. The senior needed every bit of her personal best in the 800 meters to edge out Spring Creek’s Kiely Munson (2:24.16-2:24.79) in a near photo finish.  Kuskie beat out Munson to win the 1,600 meters, as Kuskie finished at 5:35.54 and Munson at 5:40.17. Kuskie made it 3-for-3 over Munson, winning the3,200 meters in a time of 12:47.34. 

State championships this weekend

The 2021-22 high school sports season comes to an end this weekend with the spring sports state championships.

Lizaanetz earns sixth, seventh-place finishes at Northern 3A regional swimming

Lowry High School senior Matthew Lizanetz reached the finals in two events this past weekend at the Northern 3A Regional Swimming Championships in Carson City.

Battle Mountain track and field team shines at regional championships

The Battle Mountain High School track and field team shined at the Northern 2A Regional Championships this past weekend at Reed High School and brought a handful of individual champions. Sean Scherer and Zach Duggan led a 1-2 finish in the pole vault for Battle Mountain, as Scherer cleared the bar 8 feet, 6 inches and Duggan set a personal best at 8-0. 

Lowry softball knocked out of regional tournament, fall short of state bid

The Lowry High School softball team was looking to get back to the state tournament but saw its run at a trip to Fernley come up short with a 14-4 loss to Churchill County this past Friday night in Winnemucca.  The Lady Bucks ended the season at 19-17.

Lady Mustangs are runners-up at Northern 2A Regional Championships

Last weekend’s Northern 2A Regional Softball Tournament started out with West Wendover, Battle Mountain, Yerington and Pershing County – the top four teams in the 2A. 

Pershing County track and field team competes in Northern 2A Regionals

The Pershing County High School track and field team competed in the regional tournament at Reed High School this past weekend.  Six athletes ran, jumped and threw, setting several personal records. “We are proud of them and all the blood, sweat and tears they gave this year,” said Matt Fuller. “All six athletes worked hard all season and gave it their best.”

Mustang 5K adds scavenger hunt

There’s a new dimension to this year’s Mustang 5K.  It’s still raising funds for football helmets, shoulder pads and video software.

Pershing County track team winds down regular season

The Pershing County track team competed in the Lowry Invitational last Saturday.  Athletes from Battle Mountain, Elko, Lowry, McDermitt, Pyramid Lake and Round Mountain ran, jumped and threw in the last regular meet of the year. “It was a great track meet. We had multiple personal records set,” said Matt Fuller.
