The Pershing County track team competed in the Lowry Invitational last Saturday.
Athletes from Battle Mountain, Elko, Lowry, McDermitt, Pyramid Lake and Round Mountain ran, jumped and threw in the last regular meet of the year.
“It was a great track meet. We had multiple personal records set,” said Matt Fuller.
The Lovelock contingent set five PRs. Brayden Wagner threw the discus a record-setting 114-02 feet.
Kylee Fuller PR’d in the 300-meter hurdles (53.79 seconds).
She’s a seasoned distance runner but tried out the hurdles for the first time this season.
Wagner and Fuller both graduate next month so this will be their last shot at zone and state. They missed a year because of the pandemic.
Rylee Renfroe PR’d in two events – the 100-meter hurdles and the 100-meter dash. Luis Sanchez PR’d in the 400 meters. Efrain Gonzalez PR’d in the long jump. Eudosia Mendoza and Danny Jimenez continue to improve in the 200 meters and the long jump.
Renfroe is a sophomore. Sanchez, Gonzalez, Mendoza and Jimenez are completing their freshman years.
“The athletes are looking forward to the upcoming weekend,” said Fuller.
Next, they head to Reed High School for the zone tournament. It takes place this Friday and Saturday. If they qualify, they’ll be back at Reed High School for the state meet the following weekend, May 20-21.
