Crutcher wins 1A shot put at Northern 1A Regional Championships

McDermitt High School junior Cayla Crutcher took home the top spot in the shot put at the 1A Northern Regional Track and Field Championships this past weekend at Reed High School.

Crutcher qualified for this weekend’s state championships with a throw of 32 feet, 11.25 inches to beat Eureka’s Lylah Hooper (30-8.25). 

Crutcher is also headed to the state championships in the discus. 

She placed third with a toss of 86-0. Owyhee’s Mattisen Jones won with a throw of 93-8 and Eureka’s Aleigh Hooper (87-4) was second.

Sophomore Nicolette Northrup placed sixth in the shot put with a toss of 35-7.5- and she was 13th in the discus with a mark of 64-3. 

Freshman Laeloni Tobey placed 11th in the shot put (23-7) and 12th in the discus (64-5).

On the boys side, senior Enrique Villalobos is head to the state meet in the discus after his fourth-place and throw of 107-3. 

Mineral County’s Ryan Jaramillo won at 124-6 and Owyhee’s Daylin Thomas (117-1) were first and second, respectively. 

Villalobos placed 10th in the shot put with a toss of 31-7.25.

Senior Braeden Ramsey finished sixth in the 800 meters with a time of 2 minutes, 29.76 seconds and 15th in the 100-meter dash, stopping the clock at 13.57.

Fellow senior Lane Barnett earned a ninth-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 31-10. Barnett finished 14th in the 200 meters at 30.17 and 23rd in the 100-meter dash in a time of 14,52.

Senior Tristan Bitt placed 14tg in the discus with a throw of 83-3 and sophomore Jeremiah Horn placed 18th in the shot put (27-3.25) and 21st in the discus (73-5).

The boys 4x100 relay placed sixth in a time of 55.82.

Sierra Lutheran won the boys team title with 116 points. Eureka finished second with 89 points and Mineral County (82) was third. Jackpot and Smith Valley tied for fourth with 73 points apiece.  

Wells won the girls title with 164 points and Eureka was the runner-up with 118 points, McDermitt was eighth with 19 points.

The NIAA State Track and Field Championships take place Friday and Saturday at Reed High School in Sparks.
