This past Friday, the Pershing County High School football team lost a non-league road game against Portola, Calif., with a final score of 34-20. It was Pershing County's season opener. The Tigers whipped CASR in Reno the previous week.
The Lowry High School boys soccer team began its 2022 campaign this past weekend at the Spring Creek tournament. The Buckaroos dropped all four of their matches in the two-day event
The Lowry High School girls soccer team hit the field for the first time this past weekend with four matches at the Spring Creek tournament. In addition, the Lady Bucks enter the year with its third different coach in three years. However, the new coach is a familiar one. Chris Entwistle, returns for his second stint as the Lowry girls soccer coach. The Lady Bucks split their four matches over the two days, losing 3-1 to Southeast Career Tech on Friday, while bouncing back to beat Moapa Valley 3-2.
It was another busy weekend for the Lowry High School volleyball team with six matches at the Yerington tournament this past weekend. The Lady Bucks were in a pool with Coleville, Calif., Silver Stage and Galena on Friday, on the first day of the tournament. Lowry opened up with Coleville and had little trouble with the 1A school, winning 25-11 and 25-18.
The ChrissyLynn Strong Memorial 5K run/walk will be held Sunday, Sept. 11, at 3:10 p.m. at the Lowry High School track. Please arrive 20 minutes before the start of the race.
A week after dropping all five of it matches at the White Pine tournament in Ely, the Battle Mountain High School volleyball team switched some things up for its home debut this past weekend.
The McDermitt High School volleyball team made its season debut on Thursday, Aug. 26, with a road trip to Pyramid Lake. The Laker knocked off the Lady Bulldogs in three sets, 25-19, 25-10 and 25-17.
Nevada Football claimed a pair of weekly Mountain West honors, as cornerback Isaiah Essissima was named the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week, and kicker Brandon Talton Special Teams Player of the Week.
This year, the Battle Mountains High School girls golf team has eight girls that have joined the team. This past Thursday, the Lady Longhorns took two of those girls to Spring Creek to begin the new fall season. Vanessa Gillogley shot a 152 and Hannah Johnson carded a 176.
Gail Piquet shot a two-day total of 180 to win the 2022 Winnemucca Ladies Club Championship held Aug. 16 and 23 at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course.
Separated by just a little over 50 miles, Lowry and Battle Mountain high schools have played just one football game since 2014, with that taking place in 2017. After a long break in the series, the two squads got back together this past Friday night in Winnemucca. The Buckaroos, with a game under their belt, a 34-14 win over Fernley, knocked off the Longhorns 51-21, who were making their season debut with a new coach in Tucker Vezina.
Last Saturday morning Lovelock hosted a football scrimmage. The Quincy Trojans came from Plumas County, Calif. Their varsity played Pershing County's varsity. Meanwhile, Quincy JV played Pershing JV and Lowry Frosh. "The scrimmage was great," Mike Brooks said. "We had a great time and are proud of the effort our kids gave." Spectators wished for football weather. Some huddled under beach umbrellas or found shady spots to watch the action from the back of their pickup trucks.
Fall sports for Battle Mountain High School will kick into high gear this weekend. After holding a Green/Gold scrimmage this past Friday, the Battle Mountain football team will travel to Winnemucca on Friday to play Lowry at 7 p.m. It is the first meeting between the two schools since 2017,
