Lowry volleyball closes out preseason in Yerington

It was another busy weekend for the Lowry High School volleyball team with six matches at the Yerington tournament this past weekend.

The Lady Bucks were in a pool with Coleville, Calif., Silver Stage and Galena on Friday, on the first day of the tournament.

Lowry opened up with Coleville and had little trouble with the 1A school, winning 25-11 and 25-18.

The Lady Bucks continued to roll through pool play, easily defeating Silver Stage 25-6 and 25-20. Silver Stage is a member of the Northern 2A.

Lowry concluded pool play on Friday night against 5A Galena from Reno.

The Grizzlies finished third in the Northern 5A a season ago and reached the semifinals of the Northern 5A Regional Tournament before losing to eventual league champion Bishop Manogue.

Both sets on Friday night went back-and-forth, but Galena pulled out the 25-20 and 25-23 win.

In its first match on Saturday morning, Lowry took on Northern 3A East rival Fernley and Lowry won 25-18 and 27-25.

The Vaqueros played in the 3A state championship a season ago, losing to Truckee.

Next, Lowry was back on the floor to take on Spanish Springs of the Northern 5A.

The Cougars played in the Northern 5A Regional Tournament last year and are undefeated this fall. Spanish Springs came away with the 25-14 and 25-14 win.

Lowry finished the tournament with a three-set victory over Mammoth, Calif.

The Huskies won the first set 25-20, but Lowry rallied to 25-13 and 16-14 to improve to 7-4 on the season.

Lowry began crossover play on Wednesday with a trip to Truckee, the defending 3A state champion.

The Lady Bucks travel to Wooster on Tuesday, Sept. 6, and Sparks on Friday, Sept. 9, at Sparks.

Lowry makes its home debut on Saturday, Sept. 10, against Hug at noon.
