Battle Mountain High School senior Sean Scherer won the pole vault with a personal-best mark of 12 feet at the NIAA 2A State Championship this past weekend at Liberty High School in Henderson.
Sandy’s Boys won the 2023 Bad Boys Tournament held May 13-14 at Spare Time Bowl. Nearly 110 bowlers participated, with 93 of them from out of town, as the Winnemucca Inn and Winner’s Casino helped sponsor the tournament.
It was a long three days for the Battle Mountain High School softball team but a rewarding one. The Lady Longhorns advanced to the title game of the NIAA 2A State Championship at Hixson Park in Reno this past weekend and came away with a runner-up finish to Needles, Calif.
The Lowry High School softball team was back on the same field this past weekend, when it started its season in March in Mesquite at the Virgin Valley tournament. After enduring over two months of bad weather, postponements and cancelations, the Lady Bucks were back in Mesquite for the NIAA 3A State Championships, looking for their first state title since 2006.

Wintry weather made a comeback at the Lovelock Invitational last Friday.
Pershing County baseball walked off with a win after two losses last week. On Wednesday they hosted North Tahoe for senior day, losing 7-0. This past Saturday, they traveled to Fallon to play Oasis Academy in a non-league doubleheader. The Mustangs lost the opener (6-5) but won the nightcap (13-11).
