Battle Mountain baseball ends with two loses

The Battle Mountain High School baseball team had its season come to an end with two losses in the Northern 2A Regional Championships this past weekend at Pershing County High School in Lovelock.

The Longhorns opened the tournament on Friday against Yerington, the No. 2 seed, and suffered a 11-1 loss in five innings.

Yerington used three doubles in the first inning to build a 4-0 lead and added a single run in the second and three more in the third inning to build an 8-0 lead.

Battle Mountain plated its lone run in the fourth inning, after a two-out walk to Jr. Vazquez, a single to Sage Holte and Eric Fernandez reaching on an error. Vazquez and Holte each had a base hit for the Longhorns.

Yerington closed out the game with three runs in the fifth inning.

In the elimination game on Friday afternoon, Pershing County jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two innings and went on to win in five innings.

Battle Mountain put pair of batters on the bases in the first inning with a single from Anthony Molina and double from Jake Perrone. However, they were left on the base, as the last two batters were retired.

The Longhorns had multiple runners on base again in the second and third innings but could not get a run across the plate.

Colton Mills, Molina and Perrone each had two hits and Wiatt Kelly and Asher Bundrock had one hit apiece.
