Lowry swimmers compete at Northern 3A Regional Championships

The Lowry High School swim team traveled to Carson City this past weekend for the Northern 3A Regional Championships and had three swimmers advance to the finals.

In the preliminaries on Friday, sophomore Tanner Hatch finished fifth in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1 minute, 10.83 seconds to advance to the finals. 

He placed fifth in the finals as well, improving his time to 1:09.05.

Senior Caden Montero reached he finals with a seventh-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly prelims in a time of 1:27.95. 

He improved his time by more than two seconds in the finals and finished seventh at 1:25.19. In addition, Montero placed 16th in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:33.92.

Junior Garrett Jensen finished seventh in the 50-yard freestyle preliminaries with a time of 27.96 and placed eighth in the finals at 27.88. Jensen placed 11th in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:03.58.

Truckee won the regional championship with 349 points, followed by South Tahoe (22) and North Tahoe (220). Lowry was 10th with 37 points.

On the girls side, junior Tea Bengoa finished 11th in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:27.08 and was 11th in the 200-yard individual medley at 2:59.73. 

Sophomore Evie Morgan placed 14th in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:36.00, In addition, Morgan was 26th in the 200-yard freestyle (2:59.22). Aidan Peters placed 24th in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:52.02.

Truckee won the team title with 469 points and Damonte Ranch was second at 312, North Valleys (209), South Tahoe (163) and Incline (140) rounded out the top five.
