Just a few days before Christmas, it was an early showdown in the Northern 2A. as the Battle Mountain girls basketball team hosted rival Pershing County on Thursday night. The Mustangs entered the contest undefeated and continued those ways, using a 17-6 start to beat the Lady Longhorns 50-34.

The Battle Mountain High School wrestling team was back in Idaho this past weekend at the Wiley Dobbs Invitational in Twin Falls. The tournament features some of the best teams in Idaho. The Longhorns tied for 19th as a team with 35 points out of 34 schools that competed. Buhl won the tournament with 243.5 points, followed by Jerome at 163.
Battle Mountain’s Nevaeh Serna traveled to Plantation, Fla., for the 33rd annual Winter Championships at the Plantation Aquatic Complex from Dec. 6-10.
The Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team wrapped up its non-conference, preseason schedule this past weekend with a trip to Smith Valley for the Bulldogs Invitational.
The Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team split four games in Smith Valley at the Bulldogs Invitational, beating Pahranagat Valley 67-29 and Smith Valley 72-58 and losing 72-57 to Virginia City and 64-36 to Eureka. The Longhorns are now 5-4 on the season.

The Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team began its season on a high note with five wins at the Serpent Classic this past weekend in Hawthorne. The Lady Longhorns opened the year with a 39-26 win over Smith Valley and a 61-21 victory over host Mineral County.

The Battle Mountain NNA swim team was in Henderson from Nov. 9-12 for the 2023 Nevada State Short Course Championships at Heritage Park Aquatics Center.
The top of the Northern 2A was the roll of the dice this year, as Pershing County, Battle Mountain and Incline all finished at 6-1 in the final standings. Incline beat Pershing County, Battle Mountain beat Incline and Pershing County knocked off Battle Mountain.
Battle Mountain High School sophomore Dani Madalena placed 17th at the NIAA 2A State Cross Country Championships held this past Saturday at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno.
The Battle Mountain NNA swim team made its way to Carson City for the King of the Hill at the Carson Aquatic Center from Oct. 20-22.
