Special Olympics athletes participate in State Bowling Tournament

On Dec. 15, The Winnemucca Buckaroos Special Olympics Bowling team traveled to Reno, Nevada for the Regional Bowling Competition. The Special Olympics athletes practiced for eight weeks at Spare Time bowling before participating in the competition. 

Lowry girls hold off Elko for crucial Northern 3A win at home

A surefire recipe for losing a basketball game would include equal parts turnovers, poor shooting and allowing offensive rebounds. At various points on Tuesday, the Elko girls basketball team derailed itself with all three ingredients on the road at Lowry.

The Lowry High School boys basketball team came away with a split of two games at the Tri-State Invitational Desert Oasis High School in Las Vegas on Wednesday.

Lady Bucks drop three games in Idaho

The Lowry High School girls basketball team experienced something new this Christmas break.  For a number years, the Lady Bucks have spent the holiday playing a tournament in Reno. That changed last week, as Lowry made its way up to Boise, Idaho for the TimberLion Invitational. The Lady Bucks took a 7-1 record in the tournament, where they faced three 5A schools from the Boise area. Lowry dropped all three games over the three days but were in each contest to the end.

Lowry, McDermitt back in action after Christmas break

The Lowry High School girls basketball team took to the floor last week in Idaho before Christmas and will now get to enjoy some time off. However, the remaining teams at Lowry and McDermitt will be busy this week.

Bulldogs split games in Oregon

The McDermitt High School boys basketball team split a pair of games this past weekend at the Alicia Jenkins Memorial Tournament in Crane, Ore. The Bulldogs (2-8) opened with a 63-59 loss to Adrian, Ore., on Friday, Dec. 15. Adrian opened with an 18-12 lead in the first quarter but McDermitt erased the deficit, with an 18-8 spurt in the second quarter. The Bulldogs rallied to lead 30-26 at halftime.
