The McDermitt High School boys basketball team split a pair of games this past weekend at the Alicia Jenkins Memorial Tournament in Crane, Ore.

The Bulldogs (2-8) opened with a 63-59 loss to Adrian, Ore., on Friday, Dec. 15. Adrian opened with an 18-12 lead in the first quarter but McDermitt erased the deficit, with an 18-8 spurt in the second quarter. The Bulldogs rallied to lead 30-26 at halftime.

Adrian came out of the break in the third quarter with another strong run and pulled in front as the quarter came to a conclusion. The Antelopes outscored the Bulldogs 18-11 to go in front 44-41.

Adrian kept McDermitt at bay in the final eight minutes to secure the four-point win.

Cauy Crutcher paced McDermitt with 22 points, while Ben Draunidalo added 17 points and nine rebounds. Diego Navarro was also in double figures with 10 points. The junior added five steals, four rebounds and three assists.

Duane Horse scored seven points, Duane Masters two and Bruno Rincon. Joshua Miranda and Rincon each grabbed 10 rebounds.

On Saturday, Dec. 16, McDermitt dominated from the start against Mitchell/Spray and won 65-32. The difference in the contest was the first and third quarters where the Bulldogs outscored the Eagles 38-11.

McDermitt led 38-17 at halftime and was not challenged from there. The Bulldogs used a 19-4 spurt in the third quarter to lead by 36 points.

Eight different players for McDermitt scored, with Draunidalo leading the way with 18 points. The sophomore added seven rebounds. Navarro finished with 17 points, nine rebounds, five assists and five steals.

Crutcher was the third Bulldog player in double figures with 11 points. The senior had a double-double with 11 assists to go with five steals and three rebounds. Horse scored eight points, Rincon five, Logan Crutcher, Angel Alvarez and Miranda two points each.

McDermitt returns to the court on Wednesday with the Rail City Classic in Sparks.
