Buckaroos drop a pair of games to Indians

Before the worst of the weather hit this past weekend, the Lowry High School baseball team was able to get in two games against Elko. Unfortunately, for the Buckaroos the result ended in two losses in the road trip to Elko County on Friday afternoon. The Indians won game one of the doubleheader 10- and the nightcap 3-1.

Lady Bucks take opener over Indians

It was a good thought at the time but Mother Nature struck again in a bad way for the Lowry High School softball team. The Lady Bucks traveled to Elko last Friday in an attempt to play two games before the worst of the rainy weather hit northern Nevada. It turned out Lowry got a game and a half in.

The Lowry High School swim team was back in action last Friday at Alf Sorenson Pool in Reno.

Garrison, Bengochea leads Buckaroo track and field team

The Lowry High School track and field team split its squad up last week with a group at the Reed Rotary Invitational at Reed High School in Sparks. Rachel Garrison paced the field in the discus once again with a toss of 115- feet, 10 inches to win the event. She beat Douglas; Kindra Ruckman by nearly seven feet. The closest 3A competitor was 12 feet behind Garrison.

Preliminary fall schedules out for Lowry

The calendar may have just turned over to April but the preliminary fall schedules for Lowry High School have been announced.

Peraldo inducted into NIAA Hall of Fame as athlete, coach

Richard Peraldo, a three-sport star at Humboldt County High School, and a coach at Sparks High School was inducted to the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association on Thursday, March 22, in Reno.

Before heading out on spring break, the Lowry High School softball and baseball teams swept three games from Sparks this past weekend in Winnemucca. The Buckaroos head to Elko this weekend.

The Lowry High School softball team continued to feast on its early portion of the Northern 3A schedule, extending its win streak to seven games with a sweep of Sparks this past weekend in Winnemucca.

Lowry sweeps Sparks at home, tied for third in Northern 3A

Entering this past weekend’s series at home against Sparks, the Lowry High School baseball team was not going to overlook the Railroaders. Sparks is in a rebuilding mode this season and lost its opening Northern 3A series to Sparks by a combined score of 77-1. The Buckaroos have had their struggles over the past few years and did not want to be the first win for the Railroaders.

Lovelock man shoots Nevada Record Book elk

Fr. Mark Hanifan, a Catholic priest at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Lovelock, made his way into the Nevada Record Book after harvesting a deer in November. 

Rachel Garrison, Hinkle win events at Fallon Elks Invitational

The Lowry High School track and field team finally got some decent weather to compete in last Saturday at the Fallon Elks Invitational. Rachel Garrison showed she will be a threat in the discus again this spring, winning the event with a throw of 113 feet, 2 inches. She defeated Douglas’ Meleeah McKown by over three feet. Garrison also competed in the shot put but did not record a legal throw.
