RENO — Child care programs and projects in Nevada that collectively received $231 million in Child Care Development Block Grant funds from the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act and the American Rescue Plan Act – Child Care and Development Fund Discretionary Supplement are now undergoing an evaluation by University of Nevada, Reno Extension to help the state determine future priorities and funding.

The Self-Care Senior Easter Baskets will be filled with things like toothpaste, deodorant, lotion, and other products that are a luxury item for many seniors living on a fixed income.

At the Humboldt County Board of Commissioners regular meeting on Feb. 5, Tallgrass Energy presented their Pinyon Pipeline project that will convert NV Energy’s North Valmy Generating Station, approximately 40 miles east of Winnemucca, from coal to natural gas by 2026.

Although the City of Winnemucca is still seeking the funds to construct a new municipal aquatics center, they are actively engaging in design services that will help realize the actual cost of construction and provide an accurate budget and model for the project. At their regular meeting on Jan. 23, the Winnemucca City Council approved $21,425 toward further geotechnical work at the anticipated site for the aquatics center, located on East Winnemucca near Lowry High School and the Splash Pad.
CARSON CITY – The Nevada Department of Transportation is looking ahead to the summer road construction season by accepting applications for paid summer internships. Applications are being accepted for approximately 70 internship positions in Carson City, Reno, Las Vegas, Elko, Ely, Tonopah and Winnemucca.
Attorney General Aaron Ford’s office announced Tuesday that it had filed civil lawsuits against five major social media platforms, including TikTok, Snapchat and three Meta-owned platforms: Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger, over allegations that algorithms used by the platforms have been “designed deliberately to addict young minds and prey on teenagers’ well-understood vulnerabilities.”
Democratic state lawmakers in 2019 passed SB254, which directed the state to try to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (compared to a 2005 baseline) by 28 percent by 2025 and 45 percent by 2030, ultimately reaching near-zero emissions by 2050. In 2020, former Gov. Steve Sisolak’s administration released a statewide climate strategy that laid out aggressive strategies intended to lead Nevada toward a cleaner climate.
Last month, former president Donald Trump appeared in Las Vegas for a rally that reflected his attempt to shift focus to the general election. Democrats, who already hold a 28-seat supermajority in the 42-member Assembly, are one seat shy of the 14 seats needed for a two-thirds supermajority in the 21-member state Senate. The party is looking to secure veto-proof supermajorities this election cycle — an outcome that would prove dire for the political relevance of Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo.
