The Nevada Mining Association (NVMA) announces the recipients of its 2023 Individual Safety Awards, which celebrate the industry professionals whose outstanding efforts ensure mine workers return home safely after every shift.
The Department of the Interior today announced that 17 local governments in Nevada will receive a total of $31.2 million in Payments in Lieu of Taxes (PILT) funding for 2023. Because local governments cannot tax federal lands, annual PILT payments help to defray the costs associated with maintaining important community services. Humboldt County will receive $2,184, 255, Lander County $1,190,500 and Pershing County $1,307, 830.
The Little League District 3 all-star tournament gets underway this week in Elko with three divisions of action. The 8-10-year-old division starts on Friday with Silverada (Dayton) playing Walker River (Yerington) at 8 a.m. In the other portion of the bracket Winnemucca plays High Desert (Fernley) at 5:30 p.m.
On Wednesday June 7, 2023, at approximately 4:54 A.M. Pacific Time, Troopers with the Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol Division, responded to a report of a vehicle crash on Frontage Road 02, near county mile marker 8 in Lander County.
AUSTIN - The next several months will be a flurry of activity for Austin K-12 School. The staff will be participating in action research in an effort to meet the high school accreditation requirements, as well as aligning that plan with the K-12 school improvement plan as required by the federal No Child Left Behind mandate.
BATTLE MOUNTAIN - The Lander County Fair was held Sept. 10 - 11 at the Battle Mountain Civic Center and Elquist Park. In conjunction with the fair a carnival was brought in for the weekend and the Lander County Historical Society held their annual "Cookout at the Cookhouse" Museum on Saturday.
IMLAY - David and Lynda Sugasa purchased 160 acres of land about six miles from Unionville. They accept animals from all over the U.S.A. that are in need of a good home. Some of these animals have been mistreated by their owners and are no longer wanted. On the 27th of August our Senior Center was able to visit their refuge. The day was cool with some high clouds. It was a perfect day for a small trip.
BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Students in Lander County will once again reap the many benefits that come from attending their school district's after-school program. With the beginning of the new school year, the 21st Century After-School Program will once again be accepting students. The program has already begun, but not to worry. There is still plenty of room for those students that wish to participate.
BATTLE MOUNTAIN - The Lander County Historical Society (LCHS) held their annual "Cookout at the Cookhouse" on Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Battle Mountain museum site located on Broyles Ranch Road.
Nevada Department of Transportation workers performed seal work on Cornell and Western avenues last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
The Homecoming Parade, a tradition of Pershing County High School for many years, was held Sept. 23. The parade is the last event before the homecoming football game, this year played against West Wendover's Wolverines, which was the subject of many of the floats.
BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Battle Mountain High School will be celebrating Homecoming Week from Oct. 10 - 15. The theme this year is "Longhorn Celebration" and will be based on American holidays.
BATTLE MOUNTAIN - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Battle Mountain District Office (BMD), is preparing a comprehensive Resource Management Plan (RMP) and associated Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to guide management of BLM administered public land (surface lands and federal minerals) within the district.
BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Members of the Lander County Committee Against Domestic Violence recently announced the winners of this year's T-shirt design contest. They gathered at the Lander County Youth and Family Services building on Wednesday, Sept. 21 to announce and award the top three winners for their annual contest.
