BATTLE MOUNTAIN — The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public comment on a proposal from Nevada Gold Mines, LLC to construct, operate, and eventually close and reclaim the proposed Robertson Mine Project on approximately 5,990 acres in Lander County. A Notice of Availability for the Draft Environmental Impact Statement will publish in tomorrow’s Federal Register and begin a 45-day public comment period.
CARSON CITY — A career officer with the Nevada Army National Guard was named Monday as the newest director of the Nevada Department of Veterans Services. Col. Mary Devine of Reno succeeds Fred Wagar, who left his post in January. She recently served as chief of staff for Maj. Gen. Ondra Berry, the state’s adjutant general.
LAS VEGAS – Timothy Jackson, Director of Athletics for the Clark County School District, has been selected as Executive Director of the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association. Jackson was selected by the NIAA’s Board of Control at the board’s quarterly meeting on Tuesday, March 19.

The last time Calvin Connors stepped on the gridiron in Fallon, he led a Buckaroos’ fourth-quarter rally to stun the Greenwave and capture the league title. Ten years later, he’ll be back on that same field. Instead of donning the blue and gold, he’ll be pacing the sidelines in green and white. Connors was named head coach of the Greenwave football program after Brooke Hill announced his retirement from coaching last fall.
The McDermitt High School track and field team was able to dodge the weather on Saturday with a trip to the Fallon Elks Invitational that featured a number of teams from Nevada.
Unlike a majority of its meets, the Battle Mountain NNA swim team made the short trip to Elko on Saturday, March 16, for the 2024 Pot O Gold at the Elko City Pool. Beckett and Barrett Buffington competed in their first sanctioned and performed great.
The Battle Mountain High School track and field team traveled to the Fallon Elks Invitational this past Saturday to compete with a number of teams from Northern Nevada. Olivia Lemaire tossed a personal best of 26 feet 0.5 inches in the shot put to place seventh.
After having a week off, the Battle Mountain High School softball team was back home to host Oasis Academy in a three-game, Northern 2A series. The Bighorns played in the 1A state tournament last year and moved up to the 2A this past fall after realignment.

The Lowry High School baseball made its way to Elko this past weekend to begin Northern 3A East with the rival Indians. Elko swept a doubleheader 7-6 and 12-1 on Friday and completed the series sweep on Saturday with an 8-4 victory. Lowry dropped to 0-3 in league play and 5-9 overall.
It was an up and down weekend for the Lowry High School softball team, which opened Northern 3A East play in Elko. Lowry dropped the opening game of the series 3-1 on Friday afternoon but bounced back for a 17-8 win in the nightcap. The offense went away again on Saturday morning, with an 6-2 loss. The Lady Bucks dropped to 1-2 in the Northern 3A East and 7-5 overall. It is the first time Elko has taken a series from Lowry since 2010.
