The Battle Mountain High School baseball team took to the road last weekend and dropped three games to Yerington in Northern 2A action. The Lions swept a doubleheader on Friday afternoon, winning 13-3 and 11-4. Yerington won the finale on Saturday 18-3. Battle Mountain is currently fifth in the Northern 2A at 7-10, with fourt games remaining in the league schedule. Battle Mountain has a three-game series with rival Pershing County this weekend. The Mustangs are last in the Northern 2A at 2-16.
For one of the few times this year, the Battle Mountain High School boys golf team had nice weather for one of its tournaments. The Longhorns were on their home course on Wednesday, April 17, and finished fifth as a team. West Wendover had four of the top five individual finishes and led the way in the teams standings with a round of 353. The Elko JV was second at 419. Tonopah and Wells tied for third with scores of 447 and Battle Mountain was fifth at 458. Spring Creek JV (466), White Pine (508) and Jackpot (523) rounded out the team scores.

The Battle Mountain High School softball team met up with two of the top teams in the Northern 2A this past week and suffered a setback with five losses against Pershing County and White Pine. Battle Mountain traveled to Lovelock on Tuesday, April 9, and was defeated 4-3 and 11-1 in the doubleheader. Battle Mountain held the lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning in the opening game of the doubleheader, only to see Pershing County come back for the win. Sophomore Hannah Stairwalt ended the game for the Mustangs with her base hit.

Cody Ostler took home the top spot in the triple jump with a leap of 40 feet, 4 inches. Teammates Aldo Castellanos (39-5) and Marcus Jury (35-8) were third and fourth, respectively, in the event.

The Lady Longhorns won each of the three games by double digits to improve to 8-3 in the Northern 2A. Battle Mountain claimed the opening game 19-7 on Friday after scoring five runs in the top of the first inning. The Wolverines closed the gap to 9-5 in the fifth inning, when the Lady Longhorns blew the game open with 10 runs in the top of the sixth inning.
After opening the Northern 2A schedule with five consecutive victories, the Battle Mountain High School softball team suffered its first losses in league play, as Silver Stage swept three games this past week. Silver Stage won the opening contest 10-3 and swept a double-header on Saturday 10-0 and 6-3 in Battle Mountain.

The Longhorns traveled to Silver Springs on Wednesday, March 27, and beat the Nighthawks 20-10. The series moved to Battle Mountain on Saturday and the two squads split a double-header. The Longhorns won game one 19-9 and the Nighthawks claimed thee series finale 11-1. Battle Mountain now sits at 4-4 in the Northern 2A.
One of the best to ever play running back at Nevada has been elevated to coaching the position for the Wolf Pack. Vai Taua, a three-time all-conference running back during his illustrious playing career (2007-10) for the Wolf Pack, has been on the Nevada staff for the past two seasons, first as a special teams analyst and most recently as the assistant director of player personnel and recruiting. “We’re excited for Vai to move into this role on our coaching staff,” Norvell said. “This is a great opportunity for him, and it’s an opportunity that he has earned.”

The third game of the series was postponed due to weather, Battle Mountain is back home this weekend to play Silver Stage.
