The Battle Mountain High School baseball team was back on its home field this past weekend to play White Pine in a Northern 2A tripleheader

BMHS knocked off by Mustangs, Lady Cats

The Battle Mountain High School softball team met up with two of the top teams in the Northern 2A this past week and suffered a setback with five losses against Pershing County and White Pine. Battle Mountain traveled to Lovelock on Tuesday, April 9, and was defeated 4-3 and 11-1 in the doubleheader. Battle Mountain held the lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning in the opening game of the doubleheader, only to see Pershing County come back for the win. Sophomore Hannah Stairwalt ended the game for the Mustangs with her base hit. 

Arkansas tabs Nevada's Eric Musselman as next coach

Arkansas hired Nevada’s Eric Musselman on Sunday, hoping to get a once-proud program back to an elite level. The 54-year-old Musselman led a dramatic turnaround in Reno, leading the Wolf Pack to three NCAA Tournaments in four years after a nine-year absence. Nevada reached the Sweet 16 in 2018, but lost in the first round to Florida this year.

Battle Mountain turns in strong performance at home

The Battle Mountain High School track and field team performed well on its home turf on Saturday, March 30, with a number of first-place finishes. Cody Ostler took home the top spot in the triple jump with a leap of 40 feet, 4 inches. Teammates Aldo Castellanos (39-5) and Marcus Jury (35-8) were third and fourth, respectively, in the event.

Lady Longhorns win three at West Wendover

The Battle Mountain High School softball team got back to its winning ways, collecting three league victories at West Wendover this past weekend. The Lady Longhorns won each of the three games by double digits to improve to 8-3 in the Northern 2A. Battle Mountain claimed the opening game 19-7 on Friday after scoring five runs in the top of the first inning. The Wolverines closed the gap to 9-5 in the fifth inning, when the Lady Longhorns blew the game open with 10 runs in the top of the sixth inning. 

Battle Mountain softball drops three games to Silver Stage

After opening the Northern 2A schedule with five consecutive victories, the Battle Mountain High School softball team suffered its first losses in league play, as Silver Stage swept three games this past week. Silver Stage won the opening contest 10-3 and swept a double-header on Saturday 10-0 and 6-3 in Battle Mountain.

Longhorns win two of three games from Nighthawks

The Battle Mountain High School baseball team got back on the winning track with two wins in three outings this past week against Silver Stage. The Longhorns traveled to Silver Springs on Wednesday, March 27, and beat the Nighthawks 20-10. The series moved to Battle Mountain on Saturday and the two squads split a double-header. The Longhorns won game one 19-9 and the Nighthawks claimed thee series finale 11-1. Battle Mountain now sits at 4-4 in the Northern 2A.

Taua elevated to running backs coach for the Wolf Pack

One of the best to ever play running back at Nevada has been elevated to coaching the position for the Wolf Pack.  Vai Taua, a three-time all-conference running back during his illustrious playing career (2007-10) for the Wolf Pack, has been on the Nevada staff for the past two seasons, first as a special teams analyst and most recently as the assistant director of player personnel and recruiting.  “We’re excited for Vai to move into this role on our coaching staff,” Norvell said. “This is a great opportunity for him, and it’s an opportunity that he has earned.”

Trout says he is an Angel for life

Mike Trout smiled into the postcard-perfect Orange County sunlight and said exactly what every Los Angeles Angels fan has spent years hoping to hear. "I know there was a lot of talk about going back East, but I enjoy every minute being here," Trout said Sunday. "This is my home. I love it. I think the direction of the franchise, if it was going the other way, I would have had to consider going. But it never crossed my mind. I was going to be an Angel for life, sure."

Lady Longhorns take two games from Highlanders

The Battle Mountain High School softball team swept a doubleheader from Incline on Friday afternoon at Bishop Manogue High School in Reno. The Lady Longhorns won their games 20-0 and 16-1. The third game of the series was postponed due to weather, Battle Mountain is back home this weekend to play Silver Stage.

Longhorns drop two league games against Highlanders

The Battle Mountain High School baseball team dropped both ends of a Northern 2A doubleheader on Friday against Incline at Bishop Manogue High School in Reno. The Highlanders won both games 13-3, as the Longhorns fell to 2-3 in league play. The final game of the series on Saturday was postponed due to weather.

BMHS track and field team performs well at Spring Creek, Lovelock

The Battle Mountain High School track and field team had a number of strong showings at its opening meet of the year at Spring Creek on Saturday, March 16. The 4x100-meter relay of  Aldo Castellanos, Marcus Jury, Isaiah Powell, Jackson Whitlock were third with a time of 48.96 seconds. The 4x800 relay of Powell, Jimmy Cox, Declan McClary and Michael Malone were fourth.

The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA), the non-profit governing body of high school athletics in the Silver State, and One Nevada Credit Union, one of the largest locally-owned credit unions in the Silver State, are proud to announce the formation of a new title sponsorship whereby One Nevada is the presenting partner of all postseason prep contests in the Silver State.
