The Battle Mountain High School track and field team traveled to the Fallon Elks Invitational this past Saturday to compete with a number of teams from Northern Nevada. Olivia Lemaire tossed a personal best of 26 feet 0.5 inches in the shot put to place seventh.
After having a week off, the Battle Mountain High School softball team was back home to host Oasis Academy in a three-game, Northern 2A series. The Bighorns played in the 1A state tournament last year and moved up to the 2A this past fall after realignment.

Battle Mountain NNA swimmers Nevaeh Serna and Weston Reiva competed in the 2024 Valentines Day Age Group from Feb. 9-11 at the Carson Valley Swim Center in Minden. Serna earned the high-point award in her division, winning the 100-yard back stroke on 2 minutes, 27.27 seconds and the 50-yard backstroke at 32.45.
Miles away from home and in a different state all together, the Battle Mountain High School wrestling team came back home with two individual state champions in Liam Bundrock and Wyatt Madlena at the NIAA State Wrestling Championships in Bullhead City, Ariz., on Friday. Bundrock put himself is rare territory, as this was his third state championship.
It was a year of transitioning and learning, as the Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team put a young squad on the floor this year. That young group collected a win over Incline in the regular season and played tough with West Wendover all season.

It was a little closer than in the past, as Battle Mountain won with 180.5 points, followed by Yerington (167), Pershing County (149), Coral Academy (113.5) and Eureka (84).
Coaches usually say freshmen are not freshmen when you get this late in the season. The Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team came into this year with a very young team of four freshen and two sophomores. There are just three seniors on the squad.
