Battle Mountain will be hosting the 2023 Nevada Little League State Softball Tournament beginning Thursday at the fields by Elanor Leamire Junior High School.

Little League all-stars compete in Elko

The Winnemucca and Battle Mountain Little League baseball all-stars were in Elko last week for the District 3 Tournament.

Gold Medal Squared camp —

Instructors from Gold Medal Squared were in Battle Mountain last week to help put on a volleyball camp for high school students at the Lander County Rec Center. The campers went through a number of offensive and defensive drills to improve their abilities and performance on the floor.

Reiva, Serna compete at Bishop Invitational

Weston Reiva and Nevaeh Serna of the Battle Mountain Northern Nevada Aquatics team competed in the Bishop Invitational on June 10-11. Reiva was runner-up, high-point for the 10-year-olds and Serna was high-point for the 11-year-olds with 10 first-place wins.

Battle Mountain NNA swim team competes at Beat the Heat

Members of the Battle Mountain NNA swim were back in action last weekend. Daxon Bakker, competing in the 10 and under group, had three fourth-place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (1:59.96), 50-yard butterfly (53.90) and the 100-yard freestyle (1:23.67) and was sixth in the 100-yard individual medley with a time of 1:40.75.

Battle Mountain’s Holman wins state title in pole bending

Italy Jo Holman from the Battle Mountain High School Rodeo Club took home the state championship in the pole bending at the Nevada State Finals Rodeo in Winnemucca over the Memorial Day weekend.

Battle Mountain NNA swim team competes at 2023 Intermountain Classic

The Battle Mountain NNA swim team was in Carson City over the Memorial Day weekend for the 2023 Intermountain Classic. Nevaeh Serna won seven events over the weekend in the girls 10-12-year-old-division, including the 100-meter butterfly in a time of 1 minute, 30.49 seconds, a 7.22-second improvement.

Curry wins Kareem Abdul- Jabbar Social Justice award

Golden State’s Stephen Curry was selected as this season’s Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Social Justice Champion, the NBA announced Tuesday.

Nevada State High School and Junior High School Rodeo Finals take place

The Nevada High School Rodeo Association held its High School and Junior High School Finals Rodeo at the Winnemucca Event Center from Thursday to Monday. Competitors that finished first through fourth in their respective events in the final average points from the year qualify for the National High School Finals Rodeo in July. Those that are fifth-25th in each event qualify for the Silver State International Rodeo in Winnemucca.

Nevada Football opened the early signing period by signing 17 student-athletes into the Pack. The group of signees features 12 prep standouts and four incoming transfers.

Battle Mountain High School quarterback Anthony Silva was named the Northern 2A Offensive Player of the year for the 2022 football season, which is selected by the league’s coaches.
