Battle Mountain’s Kiana Gonzalez shot a round 102 to finish second at the White Pine tournament on Thursday, Aug. 31. She tied for the top spot, but White Pine’s Kylee Knutsen won on a scorecard tie-breaker.

With a new-look roster and a number of underclassmen, the Battle Mountain High School football team opened its season this past Friday against Needles, Calif., in Beatty in a neutral site non-conference game. Needles picked up the win 40-12.
Battle Mountain swimmers were back in the pool in Reno from July 15-17 at the 2022 NNA Silver State Championships and Idlewild Pool. The swimmers had to contend with hot conditions, as preliminary races started at 8 a.m. with the finals at 4 p.m.
The Lander County Recreation Center sponsored a youth wrestling camp last week. The camp instructor was Richard Cox, former four-year starter for Division I Gardner-Webb University. Cox is also a Battle Mountain graduate. The younger group spent more time learning the fundamentals, while the older group did more advanced drills.
The National High School Finals Rodeo begins Sunday in Gilette, Wyo., and concludes on June 22. A handful of Humboldt County and Battle Mountain cowboys and cowgirls will be competing.
Three members of the Battle Mountain Northern Nevada Aquatic swim team was in Reno from June 23-25 for the Reno Aquatic Club Gamble. Lightning delays played havoc with the schedule on June 25.
