McDermitt volleyball falls to Owyhee in home opener

It took a little longer than expected, but the McDermitt High School volleyball team made its home debut this past Friday afternoon against Owyhee.

Lady Bucks drop matches to Fernley, Dayton on home court

After three straight road matches, the Lowry High School volleyball team returned to its home floor this past weekend to host Lyon County schools Fernley and Dayton. The Vaqueros swept the Lady Bucks on Friday night 25-16, 25-16 and 25-22 and the Dust Devils needed four sets on Saturday afternoon to knock off the Lady Bucks 25-16, 25-18, 22-25 and 25-17. 

DeLong, Mori, Lancaster win events at Fernley High School rodeo

The Nevada High School Rodeo Association made its way to Fernley on March 13-14, with the Humboldt, Battle Mountain and Lovelock rodeo clubs turning in strong performances. Humboldt County’s Billy DeLong tied the top spot in the steer wrestling average in a time of 43.610 seconds.  DeLong won the first go-around at 20.540 and was second in the final go-around at 23.070.

Lowry girls sweep Fernley, Dayton for first victories of the season

For much of the shortened season this spring, it has been a struggle for the Lowry High School girls soccer team to find the back of the net, picking up a tie against Dayton in its first six matches.

Buckaroo boys avenge loss to Vaqueros; cruise past Dust Devils to move to 6-2

In the first weekend of the season at the beginning of March, the Lowry High School boys soccer team didn’t quite know what to expect in the shortened six weeks. The Buckaroos opened the year with a 7-1 win at Spring Creek, but came back the next day and suffered a surprising 7-1 loss to Fernley in Winnemucca.

Lowry volleyball team picks up first win of the season

After a rough start to the shortened six-week season, the Lowry High School volleyball team is starting to  find its way now. Lowry picked up its first win of the season, beating Churchill County 25-21, 25-17 and 25-20. 

Bucks/Spartans dual in Spring Creek

What was supposed to be a three-way meet turned into a two-team cross country dual between Lowry and Spring Creek on the Spartans’ home turf on Tuesday, March 16. 

McDermitt volleyball team falls opening matches of the year

After missing out on the first two weeks of the season, the McDermitt High School volleyball team it the floor for the first time this past weekend with road trips to Wells on Friday and Carlin on Saturday.

Bulldogs drop road game to the Leopards

The McDermitt High School football team was in Wells on Friday night and suffered a 58-0 loss to the Leopards.

The Lowry High School girls soccer team closed out a three-match road trip this past weekend, with losses to Churchill County and Spring Creek and dropped to 0-5-1 on the season.

Lowry falls to Fernley, suffers first loss of the season

Saturday’s meeting between the Lowry High School football team had a playoff atmosphere to it, with the brown dormant grass and the cold, wet and windy conditions usually fitted for November. Fernley came in as the reigning 3A state champion from 2019, but during that season, the Vaqueros lost to the Buckaroos.  The Vaqueros would trail early on Saturday afternoon, but rallied to beat the Buckaroos 50-21. For Lowry (2-1), it was the first loss of the season.

Lowry boys sweep home matches with Churchill County, Spring Creek

The Lowry High School boys soccer team got back on the winning track this past weekend with a pair of victories on its home field. The Buckaroos scored three times in the first half against Churchill County on their way to a 5-1 win over the Greenwave. Lowry kept the weekend perfect, breaking a 1-1 tie against Spring Creek on Saturday and turning it into a 4-1 triumph over the Spartans. Lowry improved to 4-2 on the season.

Lowry girls shoot season-best score at Dayton

As the weeks go by in the shortened Northern 3A East girls golf season, Lowry High School continues to improve. The Lady Bucks were in Dayton last Thursday and moved their winning streak to three, shooting a season-best 397 on the Arnold Palmer designed Dayton Valley Country Club.

Lowry girls soccer team drop matches to Elko, Dayton

The Lowry High School girls soccer team fell short in both of its matches past week, with losses to Elko and Dayton. With no junior varsity games on the schedule, it gave the chance to bring some of its younger players from the JV program to play in the two contests. Lowry hosted Elko on Wednesday, March 12, with the Indians winning 2-0, scoring single goals in each half.

Lowry girls win second consecutive tournament

The Lowry High School girls golf team made it two-for-two in victories this year, claiming another win in Fernley on Tuesday, March 9. The Lady Bucks improved by 10 strokes form their first tournament in Winnemucca to shoot 402. Elko closed the gap to place second at 407 and Spring Creek (426) Fernley (490) rounded out the team scores.
