It was a week later than all the other sports but the Lowry High School track and field team got its season going this past Saturday in Elko with a tri-meet with Elko and Spring Creek.
For the second week in a row, the Lowry High School baseball team won the series finale. The Buckaroos hope Saturday’s win against Elko leads to earlier momentum in future series.
If this past week was any indication, the future of the Lowry High School softball team is going to be tough on the rest of the 3A. The Lady Bucks used its mix of experienced seniors with a strong group of underclassmen to sweep Elko in a three-game series. Lowry improved to 5-1 on the year and are tied with Fernley for the top spot in the 3A East. Lowry traveled to Elko on Wednesday, April 21, and won 7-5 and then swept a doubleheader in Winnemucca this past Saturday by scores of 11-5 and 11-5.
After placing fourth in the first tournament of the season, the Lowry High School boys golf team saw a 43-shot improvement last week at Fallon Golf Course on Wednesday, April 21. Lowry carded a 390 to beat Fernley (395) by five strokes.
As the 2021 spring season gets going a month late, the Lowry High School boys golf team made the trip to Spring Creek last Thursday, for the first of six 3A East tournaments this year.

The Nevada High School Rodeo Association made its latest stop in Sparks on April 10-11 with the Spanish Springs High School Rodeo. Humboldt County’s Emma Garijo turned in a second-place finish in the barrel racing two-day average with a time of 36.025 seconds. She tied for second in the first go-around at 18.103 and was third in the second performance at 17.992. Garijo was third in pole bending with a combined time of 42.753. She was the runner-up in the second go-around with a time of 21.059. Garijo was 14th in the breakaway roping, with just one timed run. She had no time in the first go-around and stopped the clock at 4.41 in the second go-around to place ninth in that performance.
The opening weekend of play for the Lowry High School baseball team featured a mix bag of results against Churchill County. A week after scrimmaging larger 4A schools, the Buckaroos took to the field officially for the first time in this shortened six-week season against Churchill County. The Buckaroos hosted the Greenwave on Friday afternoon and suffered a 10-7 loss. Despite scoring seven runs, Lowry did not have a hit in the contest.
A group of 12 elite English, Spanish and Italian clubs dramatically split European soccer on Sunday by announcing the formation of a largely-closed Super League. They are leaving the existing UEFA-run Champions League structure despite warnings they could be kicked out of their domestic competitions and face legal action.
If you like offense and a lot of it, the Lowry High and Churchill County softball teams provided plenty of it for you this past weekend. The two rivals played a three-game series to begin the shortened six-week season and runs were aplenty. The two teams combined for 78 runs in the three games, with the Lady Bucks winning two of the three contests.
The 2021 spring season for the Lowry High School football team began with a match-up against rival Elko and concluded with a second meeting with the Indians. For the Buckaroos, both games ended in victory. Lowry traveled to Elko last Friday night for a 3A East playoff game and came back to Winnemucca with a 32-22 win and 3-3 record in the shortened six-week season.
