The Lowry High School volleyball team extended its winning streak to four matches with a pair of wins on the road this past weekend. Lowry made its way to South Lake Tahoe last Friday night and beat the Vikings 25-18, 25-20 and 25-15.
The Lowry High School boys soccer team dropped a pair of matches in Reno this past weekend to close out crossover meeings with the Northern 3A West.
After nearly a month without a competitive race due to cancellations, the Lowry High School cross country team was back in action last Friday in Fernley for the Fernley Roadhill Invitational. The Buckaroo boys won the team title with 36 points, as Lowry had six runners finish in the top 15. Incline placed second with 56 points and Fernley (70), South Tahoe (93) and Dayton (97) rounded out the top five. “We had a great day of racing at Fernley High School,” said LHS coach Kathy Norcutt. “The boys took first place on one of the toughest courses that we race.”
The Nevada High School Rodeo Association was back in action the weekend Sept. 10-12 in Ely at the White Pine High School rodeo. The Humboldt County and Battle Mountain rodeo clubs had a number of strong finishes.
After picking up three straight wins at home, the Lowry High School football team experienced its first road test of the season with a trip to Sparks High School this past Friday.
The Northern 3A girls golf schedule made its way to Winnemucca and Fallon this past week, with a familiar face atop the standings. Douglas continued its winning ways on Monday, Sept. 13, winning the tournament held at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course with a score of 382. Lowry placed second on its home course at 394 and Truckee was third at 399. Elko (428), Fernley (471), Spring Creek (489) and Dayton (600) rounded out the team scores.
It was a busy week for the Lowry High School girls soccer team with a game added at the end that was unexpected. Lowry hosted Hug on Tuesday, Sept. 14, and beat the Reno school 6-3 after leading 1-0 at halftime.
Will Howard pushed into the end zone on a 1-yard touchdown run to cap a 21-point fourth quarter, which sealed a 38-17 victory for Kansas State over Nevada on Saturday.

Terri Kracaw shot a low-net score of 72 to win the first flight of the Winnemucca Ladies Golf Club Pro’s Posse tournament, held Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course.
Round seven of the Battle Born Motocross series hit the Winnemucca Moto track this past weekend with over 400 riders from around the area. Riders competed in the 250/450 Pro, 250/450 Intermediate, 250/450 Junior, 250/450 Beginner, All vets and women, 50 cc, 65cc, 85cc and Super mini.
After having its season canceled last year, the Winnemucca Youth Football League hit the field for the first time this season with games all day at Highland Park. The teams from Winnemucca, McDermitt, Battle Mountain and Lovelock will compete weekly.
Nevada head coach Linda Garza announced Marina Demore has been hired as an assistant coach. “Coach Marina Demore comes with national team and high-caliber playing experience,” Garza said in a news release. “ Coach D has familiarity with the Mountain West, experience integrating technology, alongside the day-to-day work progression of bullpen planning.” A native of Vancouver, British Columbia, Demore joins Garza’s staff after spending a season at Northern Kentucky University serving as a pitching coach.

The Lowry High School volleyball team picked up its first league victories of the year this past weekend over two Northern 3A West schools. Lowry hosted Sparks on Friday and beat the Railroaders 25-10, 25-2 and 25-10. The Lady Bucks had an early-morning wake-up call on Saturday for a trip to Reno and Lowry beat Hug 25-11, 25-17 and 25-18 to improve to 2-1 in league play.
