It seems like yesterday that the high school sports season started. But the year has come to and end.
A strong contingent of Humboldt County athletes will be in Ely this weekend, as the Nevada State High School Rodeo Association Finals get under way at the White Pine County Fairgrounds.
The Winnemucca Ladies Golf Club hosted their annual Couples Tournament last weekend at Winnemucca Golf Course. A field of 68 players from northern Nevada and California competed in the two-day event.
More than 70 third- through eighth-graders took part in the annual Lowry High School boys basketball camp last week in the main gym at the high school. The camp was broken into three different age groups throughout the four days from Monday through Thursday, under the direction of varsity head coach Chad Peters and a number of the current Lowry basketball players. The camp was designed to help young players increase their basketball skills and overall knowledge of the game. If you're a hardcore outdoorsman then you're going to need a good flashlite. Most game moves at daylight/dark which means you'll be hiking out of the mountains in the pitch black. That's where the flashlite comes in. You'll also need one if you're hiking to the top of a mountain two hours before daylight to go elk hunting.

The Winnemucca 9-10-year-old Little League all-stars will be traveling to Fernley next week for the Division 3 Tournament. High Desert is the host and White Pine (Ely), Silverada (Dayton), Ruby Mountain (Spring Creek), Elko and Walker River (Yerington) are also competing in the week-long event.
Nina Smith shot a low gross score of 98 to lead the way in the first flight of the Winnemucca Ladies Golf Club Ace of Aces tournament Tuesday at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course.
Reno's Jacob Wilner shot a 7-under par 65 last Sunday to take home the top spot at the Winnemucca Amateur held last weekend at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course. Wilner shot a 138 for the two-day event. The tournament featured 22 players in the scratch division and 30 in the net division.

Cole Hatcher, a 2012 Lowry graduate, currently sits in third place in the saddle bronc at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo.
The 2014 Lowry High School fall sports night for athletes and parents will be held Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 6:30 p.m. in the Lowry auditorium.
The Humboldt County Rodeo Club will be sending three of its members to the National Finals High School Rodeo, after its performances at the Nevada State High School Association State Finals Rodeo held in Ely June 13 - 15.

Lowry High School graduate and former Humboldt County Rodeo Club member Joe Harper wrapped up his stay at the College National Finals Rodeo on Saturday with a sixth-place finish in the saddle bronc.
