WINNEMUCCA - The Lowry High School football team is the last Humboldt County squad to be playing this fall. The Buckaroos travel to Las Vegas to face Faith Lutheran at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the semifinals of the NIAA Division I-A state playoffs.

WINNEMUCCA - BDC won the annual Spare Time Bowl Fall Classic held Friday, Nov. 8, through last Sunday. The Winnemucca Inn provided $2,800 in prize money and Winners Inn Casino contributed $1,000. Nearly 110 bowlers, 90 of them from out of town, competed in the three-day tournament.
WINNEMUCCA - The Winnemucca U-15 all-star soccer team traveled to Fallon last Saturday and won the tournament with victories over Sparks and Fallon and Reno.
WINNEMUCCA - The Reno Bighorns will face off against the Idaho Stampede for a preseason exhibition game in Winnemucca on Tuesday, Nov. 19.
WINNEMUCCA - It is becoming a November tradition for the Lowry High School football team to travel to southern Nevada to play in a state semifinal game in November.
LAS VEGAS - What was intially thought to be an offensive shootout turned into a defensive battle as the Lowry High School football team traveled to Las Vegas on Saturday to face Faith Lutheran in the Division I-A state semifinals.Both teams came in scoring over 400 points on the season, but the two schools combined for just two touchdowns. Faith Lutheran used three field goals by Trent Dolby to beat Lowry 16-8 and advance to its first state championship game.Once again, southern Nevada was unkind to the Buckaroos, who have now lost four consecutive state semifinal games to Division I-A South opponents. The previous three losses were against Moapa Valley. Lowry finished the year at 10-2, tying the school record for wins in a season."Southern Nevada hasn't been very kind to us in the past few years," said LHS head coach Tim Billingsley. "We had a tough time getting into a flow on offense. Faith Lutheran is a good team. We just didn't get many breaks. We had a couple of good drives but just hurt ourselves with penalties and turnovers."
WINNEMUCCA - In what proved to be a turnaround year for the Lowry High School volleyball team, the Lady Bucks set two individual state records this fall.The latest occurred on Friday, Oct. 18, as the Lady Bucks took on Truckee in Winnemucca. Lowry High School sophomore Darion Iturriaga made her way in the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association record book with 45 digs. The match went five sets, with the Wolverines prevailing.
WINNEMUCCA - Rack Pack held on to the top spot in the Winnemucca Pool League standings with a 11-6 win over Bar M in week six action. Rack Pack has a 5-1 record and 69 out of a possible 102 points.Sand Dune Diggers (5-1) remained in second place with 67 points, after a 10-7 victory over Cheers Hustlers. Club 40 (4-2) solidified its third-place spot with a 13-4 victory over Sand Dune Lizards, and has 62 out of a possible 85 points.
RENO - The Reno Aces raised $3,690 to benefit the SMS Compassion Fund during the Swings for Sparks event on Saturday, Nov. 8, at Aces Ballpark.
WINNEMUCCA - Basketball fans in Winnemucca got a taste of the big time as the Reno Bighorns returned to Lowry High School for a second consecutive season.
WINNEMUCCA - The 2013-14 winter sports season is underway with games beginning next weekend for the Lowry High School boys basketball team.The Buckaroos will host Galena in a scrimmage on Wednesday starting at noon. The varsity and junior varsity teams will play in the old gym, while the freshmen will take on the Grizzlies in the new gym at the high school.
WINNEMUCCA - Nevada's small schools will decide their state football champions on Saturday. Two games will take place in Reno, while a third will be played in southern Nevada.The day at Damonte Ranch High School in Reno will begin with the Division III title game between Yerington and Mountain View. Yerington comes into the game undefeated at 10-0, while Mountain View is 10-1.
Before playing Idaho on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at Lowry High School, players, coaches and staff from the Reno Bighorns made a stop at Sonoma Heights Elementary School on Tuesday afternoon. Managing owner Herb Santos, Jr. and head coach Joel Abelson spoke to the students, as did players Mo Charlo, Brandon Heath and David Palmer.
