WINNEMUCCA - After reaching the state semifinals for the fourth consecutive season, and tying a school record for wins, the Lowry High School football team was rewarded for its success on the field with a number of all-league selections.

WINNEMUCCA - Even though the Lowry High School varsity boys basketball team has nine seniors on its squad this year, head coach Chad Peters was worried about how to fill the void of the three graduating seniors from a year ago.The coach would find out about his team quickly, as the Buckaroos hosted Reno this past Saturday night in Winnemucca. The Huskies beat the Buckaroos last year and are considered one of the top teams in the Division I North this season.
WINNEMUCCA - If the first game is any indication, the Lowry High School junior varsity team is going to be a fun group to watch.The Buckaroos overcame a five-point deficit in the fourth quarter against Reno on Saturday night and outscored the Huskies 10-3 in overtime to win their season opener 53-46."It was a good win for us," said LHS head coach Jeff Rinas. "We got off to a slow start and was just sluggish on the offensive side of the ball. We got ourselves in foul trouble and we weren't playing our game. Once we settled down we played OK."
WINNEMUCCA - Sand Dune Diggers jumped to the top spot in the Winnemucca Pool League standings with a 12-5 victory over Sand Dune Lizards in week eight action. Sand Dune Diggers is 7-1 and has earned 93 out of a possible 136 points.
WINNEMUCCA - After getting a chance to work out the kinks in a scrimmage against Galena last week, the Lowry High School freshmen boys basketball team took the floor this past Saturday afternoon in Winnemucca to open its season against Reno.The Huskies held the Buckaroos to single digits in every quarter on their way to a 48-33 victory over the Buckaroos."We looked good in the scrimmage," said LHS head coach Grant Beatty. "We had a tough time finishing our shots today. We got ourselves in foul trouble and missed a lot of layups. I am thinking it was just the first game jitters."

Above left, Jace Billingsley, who plays for Eastern Oregon, was named to the first team as a wide receiver. Billingsley set a school record for receptions in a season with 69. He caught four touchdowns and had 820 yards receiving. Will Thacker (right) was named to the second team at offensive line and plays for Montana-Western. The two are pictured in Montana when Eastern Oregon and Montana-Western played on Nov. 16. Both schools are members of the NAIA.
WINNEMUCCA - Lowry High School junior Monique Rodriguez was named to the Division I-A North girls first team at forward and was also named to the Division I-A all-state second team. She was the only Buckaroo named to the all-state team.
WINNEMUCCA - Lowry High School senior Carlos Aguilar was named to the Division I-A North boys soccer first team at forward. In addition he was named to the Division I-A all-state second team. He was the only Buckaroo named to the all-state team.
WINNEMUCCA - OK. I know it is way too early in the year for this but let's have a little fun at what the winter sports season could bring for the Lowry High School basketball and wrestling teams and the McDermitt High School basketball teams.
WINNEMUCCA -The Lowry High School wrestling team extended the second-longest dual winning streak in state history to 82 with seven wins this past weekend at Churchill County High School in Fallon.
WINNEMUCCA - The Lowry High School boys basketball team picked up three victories in four games at the Legacy Tip-Off this past weekend in Las Vegas.
WINNEMUCCA - Rack Pack once again took over the top spot in the Winnemucca Pool League standings with an 11-6 victory over Playahz in week nine action. Rack Pack is 8-1 and has earned 102 out of a possible 153 points.
