RENO - Four more Nevada football games will be televised nationally this fall as the Mountain West announced an additional 15 games that will be broadcast by the ESPN family of networks. The annual Battle for the Fremont Cannon, which will be Saturday, Oct. 26, at Mackay Stadium, will be carried on an ESPN network, as will the Wolf Pack's home game against San Jose State on Nov. 16.
WINNEMUCCA - The Lowry High School track and field team will be sending a handful of its members to the NIAA State Championships that begin today at Silverado High School in Las Vegas.
WINNEMUCCA - When Lowry High School dropped back down to Division I-A (formerly the 3A) in 2000, one team was left competing against the largest schools in the state.
The Lowry High School swim team experienced its most successful year in school history by sending three individuals and five relay teams to the NIAA State Championships on Saturday in Carson City. Tori Echeverria, Kelsea Perkinson and Matt Ruehl qualified as individuals. The Lady Bucks 200-yard medley, 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard freestyle relays advanced to state as did the boys 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard relay.
The Winnemucca Bobcats 11 and under baseball team finished second in the Winnemucca Mother's Day Tournament held at the sports complex last weekend. The Bobcats collected one win in four games over two days. In the tournament opener on Saturday, the Bobcats lost 10-4 to the Fernley Firebirds. The Bobcats came back to beat Walker River 13-3. On Sunday, the Winnemucca squad lost to Fernley's 10 and under team 19-3 and the Fernley Firebirds 10-3. The team includes Gratian Dawson, Brooks Bergenheier, Garrett Linnell, Tyler Neu, Michael Yarnell, Jessie Swanson, Colton Browner, Christian Olson, Reno Flores, Levi Chirstopherson, Dylan Patterson, Jordan Parker and Ethan Radmanovich. The team is coached by Jeff Dawson, Sheldon Bergenheier and Rich Neu.
The Winnemucca Wildcats 12 and under baseball team went 1-2 in the Winnemucca Mother's Day Tournament held at the sports complex last Saturday and Sunday. The Wildcats lost 8-6 to Fernley in their first game on Saturday, but came back to beat Walker River 4-3 later in the day. In bracket play on Sunday morning, the Bobcats lost 5-2 to Walker River, ending their tournament. The team includes Adrian Mendoza, Dorsey Naveran, Ridge Ricketts, Jimmy Rackley, Dylan Money, Josiah Chapman, Riley Sakurada, Brendan Domire, Jacob Marriott and Kyle Sappington. The squad is coached by Jim Rackley, Tim Naveran, Matt Growcock and Todd Ricketts.
The Winnemucca Badgers 10 and under baseball team finished second in the Winnemucca Mother's Day Tournament held at the sports complex last weekend. The squad went 1-3 over the two days, including a 12-3 win over Yerington. The Badgers lost to Fernley 7-6 in their first game and then came back to beat Yerington. Winnemucca lost 7-2 to Fernley's 11 and under team and 5-3 in the championship game to Fernley's 10 and under team.
