The McDermitt High School volleyball team shook up the top of the 1A East standings this past weekend, with a five-set win over previously unbeaten Eureka.
After a tough stretch in the middle of the season, the Lowry High School football team got back on the winning track with a 38-20 win over South Tahoe on Friday night in the Buckaroos’ home finale and homecoming game. Lowry snapped a four-game losing streak and clinched a playoff berth in the process.
The Northern 3A girls golf regular season concluded with tournaments in South Tahoe and Truckee. South Tahoe won the Northern 3A Regional Championship and Wooster and Fernley will join them in Mesquite this week for the NIAA 3A State Tournament.

The Lowry High School volleyball team made its final regular season road trip of the season with a short ride to Fallon on Friday night against Churchill County. The Lady Bucks, looking for their first win in the Northern 3A East, won the first set 25-23 in a back-and-forth affair.

After struggling in a home loss to Churchill County and a week off in the schedule, the Lowry High School girls soccer team had some time refocus on the second half of the regular season. The Lady Bucks faced a tough test out of the break with a road trip to Spring Creek and Elko this past weekend. Lowry passed with flying colors, beating Spring Creek 3-0 on Friday and Elko 3-2 on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Bucks improved to 9-3 in the Northern 3A East and 11-5 overall.
The Lowry High School football team was looking to improve a possible playoff spot with a road trip to Fernley on Friday night. Both teams came into the contest with one win in the Northern 3A in a battle for the fifth spot in the postseason.
In order for the Lowry High School boys soccer team to get back in the playoff hunt in the second half of the Northern 3A East, the Buckaroos were going to need a couple breaks to go their way. The Buckaroos had the tough task of hosting the top two teams in the Northern 3A East on Friday and Saturday.
The Lowry High School cross country had a beautiful day to host its annual invitational on Friday afternoon at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course. Spring Creek, Elko and Churchill County brought their teams to Winnemucca, as did Oasis Academy, Battle Mountain, Wells and Owyhee.
The McDermitt High School volleyball continued its winning ways and moved a step closer in earning a top-two seed in the 1A East Regional Championships at the beginning of November. A week after beating Owyhee on the Braves’ home floor, the Lady Bulldogs swept their way to a 25-20, 25-17, 25-12 win over Owyhee on Thursday afternoon in McDermitt.
The Lowry High School volleyball team was back on the road last week for two matches in Lyon County to conclude the first half of the Northern 3A East schedule. The Lady Bucks were in Dayton on Friday and the Dust Devils came away with a four-set victory.

Gail Piquet shot a low-gross score of 98 to win the first flight of the Winnemucca Ladies Golf Club Gross and Net tournament on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course.
