The Lowry High School boys basketball team tipped off its season this past weekend in Elko for a three-day tournament. Lowry opened the season on Thursday with 77-40 loss to Kuna, Idaho. The Buckaroos collected their first win of the season on Saturday with a 79-75 win over West Wendover.
The McDermitt High School boys basketball team saw its season start this past Friday and Saturday the Winter Invitational in Reno. The tournament features JV schools from the 4A and 3A and some 1A and 2A varsity schools as well.
The Battle Mountain High School wrestling team hit the road for Idaho last weekend for the Donnelley Duals at Capital High School in Boise. The reigning 2A state champions saw some of its toughest competition all year. The Longhorns took part in five duals, dropping them all to the Idaho schools.
The Lowry High School wrestling team made the short trip to Fallon on Saturday t starts its season with the Fallon Duals. The Buckaroos varsity squad went 4-1 and the JV group going 0-4. Luke Fentress, a senior at 190 pounds and Jhet Harber, a junior at 175 pounds, each went a perfect 5-0 on the day.

The Lowry High School girls basketball team continued its busy start to the season with four more games in Reno and Sparks this past weekend at the Winter Tip-Off Tournament.
Usually when you head to Las Vegas, one would want to stay a while and enjoy the sites. The Lowry High School girls basketball team had other thoughts, as it opened the season last weekend at the Silverado Showdown. In a whirlwind of 32 hours, the back-to-back 3A state champions drove to southern Nevada, played and won four games and headed back to Winnemucca.
The Lowry High School girls soccer team was rewarded with postseason honors for its play this past fall. The Lady Bucks reached the Northern 3A Regional Tournament, finishing third in the East Division at 14-4 and 16-7 overall. Senior Ala Novi, who recently signed with Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, Ore., was named to the Northern 3A East, Northern 3A and 3A all- state first teams.
The Nevada High School Rodeo Association closed out its fall schedule with the Mopa Rodeo on Nov. 11-12. Billy DeLong took home the top spot in saddle bronc with a ride of 74 points in the second performance.
Lowry High School senior Savannah was Named to Northern 3A and Northern 3A east volleyball first team and the all-state second team for her play this fall.
The Lowry High School girls basketball team will begin its defense of back-to-back state championships with a trip to Las Vegas on Friday and Saturday for the Silverado Shootout.
LAS VEGAS — Bryce Fears of the Humboldt County Rodeo Club has qualified to compete in the Vegas Tuffest Jr. World Championship in December. He will be one of over 1,000 entries from 29 different states including four provinces in Canada competing Dec. 6-13 at the Mike and Sherrylynn Johnson Vegas Tuffest Jr. World Championship which is held the first weekend of the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas.
With just six players and no substitutes, the McDermitt High School volleyball team embarked on the NIAA 1A State Championships last week at North Valleys High School and the Virginia Street Gym in Reno. It was the first time the Lady Bulldogs were back at the state tournament since 2010 and would need to avenge a loss earlier in the season to Round Mountain to get to the state semifinals.

Lowry High School junior Brooklyn Swensen was the lone Buckaroo at the NIAA State Cross Country Championships held this past Saturday at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno.
