Lady Bulldogs start Christmas Classic with two wins over Reed JV, Douglas JV

The McDermitt High School girls basketball team started the 2023 Christmas Classic at North Valleys High School in Reno with a pair of victories. On Wednesday, Dec. 27, McDermitt cruised to a 63-24 win over the Reed JV.

Bulldogs collect first win in California

The McDermitt High School boys basketball team picked up its first win of the season at the Super 8 Classic, hosted by Lassen High School in Susanville, Calif., on Dec. 15-16.

After enjoying its first home game of the season, the Lowry High School girls basketball team was back on the road on Tuesday, Dec. 20, for a non-conference meeting with South Tahoe.

Lakers knock off Lady Bulldogs

The McDermitt High School girls basketball team made its way to Nixon on Tuesday, Dec. 20, to face Pyramid Lake, the reigning 1A state champion. In a battle of two of the top teams in the Northern 1A, the Lakers opened up an eight-point lead in the first quarter to win 39-29.

Lowry win streak hits five with double-overtime win at South Tahoe

The Lowry High School boys basketball team likes to make interesting for its parents and fans. That was no different on Tuesday, Dec. 20, in South Tahoe. Just a few days after beating Lassen, Calif., by a point, the Buckaroos needed two overtimes to beat South Tahoe 67-66 in a wild back-and-forth contest.

With a new coach in Marcella Northrup on the sideline for this season, the McDermitt High School girls basketball team has begun the year with a quick start.

After a slow start to the season, the Lowry High School boys basketball team is starting to find its way under the direction of new head coach Jesse Zamudio.

Lowry brings home six individual champions, team title at Lovelock Mustangs Invitational

The Lowry High School wrestling team made the short trip to Lovelock on Saturday and came away with a dominating team victory at the Lovelock Mustangs Invitational. Lowry led the way with 213 points, followed by Churchill County (165), Fernley (156), Spanish Springs (147.5) and Reno (129).

Lady Bucks roll past Lakers, Panthers

After playing eight games in the first two weekends of the season, the Lowry High School girls basketball team had 10 days off to finally hit the practice floor. Lowry traveled to Nixon on Tuesday, Dec. 12, in battle of state champions. The Lady Bucks, the 3A state champs, used a 25-6 fourth-quarter run to beat Pyramid Lake, the 1A state champ, 56-41.

McClure signs with College of the Siskiyous to continue softball career

Even though she has not started her senior softball at Lowry High School, Maddison McClure knows where she will be headed to further her career. The senior singed a letter of intent to play at College of the Siskiyous in Weed, Calif. McClure is a catcher for the Lady Bucks.

Walker’s to play in the Dream All-American Bowl

Lowry High School senior David Walker was nominated and accepted into the 2024 Dream All-American Bowl. After rigorous review from the committee, the top athletes were invited to play in the exclusive all-star game and participate in a weekend long event of developmental activities and performance on a nationwide platform. Dream All-American Bowl showcases the nation’s best high school and middle school athletes.

Lowry’s Estrada, Guizar named to Northern 3A East boys soccer first team

Lowry High School’s Jesus Guizar and Bernardo Estrada were named to the Northern 3A all-league first team for their play this past fall season. Guizar was selected as a midfielder and Estrada as a defender. Elko’s Nico Avila was named the MVP and Alonso Lujan was chosen as the coach of the year.

Hornbarger, Guzman, Walker earn all-league, all-state honors for Buckaroos

Lowry High School’s Roan Hornbarger, Anthony Guzman and David Walker were named to the Northern 3A all-league first team for their play during the football season. Hornbarger was selected on the defensive line and collected second-team, all state honors as well. Guzman was one of three wide receivers on the all-league first team and he was chosen for the all-state honorable mention team.

Gomez, Ricci, Gildone win titles at Cody Louk Invitational

The Lowry High School wrestling team found itself back atop the standings at the Cody Louk Invitational, winning the tournament his past weekend in Winnemucca with 228 points. Douglas was second with 192 points, followed by Spring Creek (161), Carson (155) and Spanish Springs (154.50). The Buckaroos had three champions crowned in Kruz Gomez at 113 pounds, Marcas Ricci (126) and Chris Gildone (150).

Brooks passes Billingsley for all-time dual wins at Lowry

This past Thursday night at the Winnemucca Event Center, the Lowry High School wrestling team defeated South Tahoe 58-18. The win propelled long-time coach John Brooks past Jim Billingsley for dual wins at Lowry with 313. The 313 dual wins are the four most in Nevada history.
