It was billed as the softball series of the year in the —Northern 3A and Lowry High School and Fallon did not disappoint the crowd in their three-game set this past weekend in Winnemucca.
If the Lowry High School baseball team had hopes of improving its chance at securing the final playoff berth in the Northern 3A, it would have had to take a couple games from Fallon this past weekend in Winnemucca.
While on group of Lowry High School track and field athletes went to Reno last Saturday, another group made the trip to Elko on Friday, April 14, for the Ward Coates Invitational. Julianna Garcia won the 200 meters with a time of 29.58 seconds for a personal best and was eighth in the 100-meter dash at 14.86. Lily Pasquale was third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 57.50 and seventh in the long jump with a leap of 12-9.
The Humboldt County Rodeo Club made its way to Gardnerville this past weekend to take part in the Carson/Douglas High School Rodeo. Quint Bell had a number of strong finishes on Saturday, April 15, beginning with a third-place outing in steer wrestling in a time of 8.94 seconds. Bell was fifth in boys cutting with 68 points and 10th in reined cow horse with 129.50 points.
The Lowry High School swim team got back on the winning track on Friday, April 14, with dual wins over Sparks at Alf Sorenson Pool in Reno. The Buckaroo boys beat the Railroaders 141-40 and the Lady Bucks were victorious 100-47. A number of Lowry boys recorded first-place finishes with Liam Walls claiming the top spot in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 56.36 seconds. The senior also won the 50-yard freestyle in a quick time of 24.76.
The Lowry High School track and field team took on some of the best schools in northern Nevada at the Northwest Invite at McQueen High School in Reno on Saturday, April 15.
The McDermitt High School track and field team was busy this past weekend with a pair of meets in Oregon. The Bulldogs traveled to Crane, Ore., on Friday April 14, to take part in the Ranchers Invitational.
The Lowry High School boys golf team moved a step closer in solidifying a spot in the state tournament next month in Spring Creek with a second-place finish at Ruby View Golf Course in Elko on Wednesday.
In a season that has not gone as planned, there is not going to be any quit in the Lowry High School baseball team, as it plays its final nine games. With a pair of players out due to injuries, the Buckaroos dropped their eighth game in a row after getting swept by South Tahoe this past weekend in Winnemucca. Lowry had to bring up a two junior varsity players to fill the spots.
The Lowry High School softball team ended a busy week of six games in six ways, the same way it started. After sweeping three games at Dayton to start last week, the Lady Bucks picked up another three impressive home wins this past weekend against South Tahoe. Lowry outscored South Tahoe 55-4 to improve to 15-0 in the Northern 3A and its winning streak to 16 games. The Lady Bucks won Friday’s opener 17-0 and a doubleheader 20-1 and 18-3 on Saturday.
The Lowry High School junior varsity softball and baseball teams were back on the field Monday in Winnemucca to play Dayton. The games were scheduled for Saturday, April 8, but postponed due to weather.

The saddle bronc event at the College National Finals Rodeo is certainly going to have a Winnemucca flair to it. The National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association recently completed its Rocky Mountain Regional Finals, where three Winnemucca cowboys swept the top three spots.
DAYTON — The Lowry High School baseball team was looking to improve its postseason chances, with a trip on Monday and Tuesday to one of the surprise teams in the Northern 3A this season. Dayton came into the three-game series tied for the top spot in the league with Elko. The Buckaroos had their chances to win two of the games, but saw the Dust Devils win all three contests. Dayton swept a doubleheader on Monday 17-7 and 6-5 (eight innings) and won the finale on Tuesday 8-0.
DAYTON — It took an extra couple days to complete, but the Lowry High School softball team remained undefeated in the Northern 3A with three wins at Dayton to start the week. The Lady Bucks’ spring break was extended a couple days by Mother Nature, as the squad had to make up games that were canceled at the end of last week. Lowry swept a doubleheader 19-3 and 3-0 on Monday and won a single game on Tuesday 14-0 to improve to 12-0 in the Northern 3A and 14-3 overall. The Lady Bucks have won their last 13 games and have outscored their league opponents 193-13.
