Silver State International Rodeo closes out another year

The 32nd Annual Silver State International Rodeo closed up shop for another year on Saturday afternoon at the Winnemucca Events Complex with the Top-15 Finals. Hundreds of contestants from around the country and Canada took part in the week-long event that featured athletes that finished fifth through 15th in their final state and province standings. A handful of Humboldt County and Battle Mountain students took part in the event.

Winnemucca 11-12 Little League All-Stars drop two games at District 3 Tourney

The Winnemucca 11-12 Little League All-Stars were in Elko this past weekend for the eight-team District 3 Tournament. Winnemucca met up with host Elko on Friday night and lost 11-10 in seven innings.

Rotary Club of Winnemucca holds annual golf tournament

The Rotary Club of Winnemucca held its sixth annual golf tournament May 6-7 with 40 teams participating at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course. Proceeds from the tournament benefit youth programs in Humboldt County supported by the Rotary Club.

Silver State International Rodeo rolls into Winnemucca for annual stop

Junior high and high school athletes from around the West and Canada were in Winnemucca this week for the 32nd Annual Silver State International Rodeo. The event features some of the top finishers in their state or province in pole bending, goat tying, breakaway roping, tie-down roping, steer wrestling, team roping, ribbon roping, barrel racing, bull riding, bareback riding, saddle bronc and chute dogging.

Lowry boys basketball holds annual camp

Still Crappie Fishing

I went crappie fishing early this spring a couple of times because I didn’t want to miss the run when it got hot. Then I was off on other adventures for a few weeks and then hit them again. I was afraid that I’d missed the peak run but not so. We’re still doing good. In fact, we did the best this weekend than we’ve done so far this year.

Humboldt County's Kayla Curtis made her way to Lebanon, Tenn., last week for the National Junior High School Rodeo Finals. She competed and finished 38th in the nation in the rifle shoot with 228 points

Annual Jumpin' June Drag races beat the heat at Good Times Drag Strip

The Good Times Drag Strip held the Jumpin’ June Drags this past weekend. Racers from Carson City, Fallon and Utah joined locals in the fun. The track is 1/8-mile long with barricades along both sides.
