Several hundred third through eighth-graders ran a mile at the Lowry Invitational cross country meet held at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course last Friday.
The Lowry High School boys soccer squad dispatched Churchill County (Fallon) 7-0 to claim a homecoming win over the visitors on Tuesday. “It was a pretty good game,” said Lowry coach Steve Swanson after the game. “Fallon is a weaker team, although they are much improved from where they were last year. They played us really tough on their home field earlier this year. I don’t think it was the same team today.”
Gail Piquet was the first flight low gross winner shooting a 102 in the Ladies Golf Club Ace of Aces Tournament at the Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course on Tuesday.
The Lowry girls golf team placed second in its last two matches of the regular season to bring home the Northern 3A title for the year. The Lady Buckaroos placed second in Fernley on Tuesday shooting a 395. Elko (373) won the tournament and Spring Creek (397) finished third.
The Lowry High School volleyball team dropped a match (25-12, 25-17, 25-22) at home against Fernley’s Lady Vaqueros on Wednesday night at Pat Hart Court. The loss dropped the Lady Buckaroos to 3-11 in league play and 6-14 overall.
The senior/freshman team took down the junior/sophomore powderpuff squad 18-6 in the Lowry homecoming ritual on Monday night.
Pat Hart Court was packed with fans on Tuesday as the Lowry High School classes took on each other and the faculty in the annual homecoming “He-Man” volleyball tournament.
The Lowry High School football team travelled to Dayton last Friday night to try and improve its conference record and continue on their trek to make the playoffs. The Bucks delivered a 53-6 drubbing to improve to 4-3 in league play and 5-3 overall.

The Lowry High School girls soccer team hosted a pair of conference matches last Friday and Saturday. Sparks scored two goals in the first half, while Lowry put up its two goals in the second half to secure the 2-2 tie. Lowry senior Danielle Terou and sophomore Lesley Martinez scored in the contest.
Oklahoma has fired defensive coordinator Mike Stoops after the Sooners struggled to stop Texas in their first loss of the season. The Sooners said Monday that Ruffin McNeill, the assistant head coach and defensive tackles coach, will be the defensive coordinator for the rest of the season.
Fourteen Division 2A-4A High School teams came to the Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course last Friday to run 5,000 meters in the Buckaroos only home meet of the season.
