The Lowry High School volleyball team took on division rivals at home last weekend. On Friday the Lady Buckaroos lost to Truckee 25-3, 25-9 and 25-15.
The Lowry girls varsity soccer team matched up against conference rivals South Tahoe and Incline last weekend. The Vikings and the Highlanders gave the host a tough time, winning 7-0 and 1-0 respectively.
The Lowry High School football team finished out the regular season this past Friday against the top team in the Northern 3A. The Buckaroos' road trip to Fallon ended with a 43-0 loss to undefeated Churchill County.
Spring Creek hosted the final event of the season for the JV cross country squads in northern Nevada last Thursday. "Spring Creek and Elko have huge teams," said LHS coach Kathy Norcutt. "So coach Malkie in Spring Creek developed this race for the JV kids and varsity runners that are ranked 4, 5, and 6 on their teams to give them an opportunity to earn a medal, even though they can’t go to regional.” Kinsey Albisu took third place in the girls 5,000 meter race with a time of 23 minutes, 50 seconds and Alethea Houston (24:41) was close behind for fourth place.
The High Desert Aquatic Masters swim club competed at the Senior Olympics in Las Vegas on Oct. 6-7. Mary Agnes Boni, Joyce Mendiola and Maria Bengochea all swam in multiple events, and they brought home hardware from each to justify their efforts.
The McDermitt High School football team hosted Carlin last Saturday in their second-to-last regular season contest. The Railroaders put up the first 40 points in the first half, before McDermitt got on the board with a touchdown as time expired in the first half. A missed extra point attempt made the tally 40-6 at the half.
Runners from northern Nevada met at the Elko Invitational on Thursday, Oct. 11, at Ruby View Golf Course. Lowry High School used this last opportunity to tune up for their upcoming trip to the regional meet at the end of the month in Reno. “It was a good day for us,” said Lowry coach Kathy Norcutt. “It was cold, but that is probably a good thing, because it will be cold when we run at regional, so they got a little taste of that.”
The Lowry High School girls golf team concluded its season this past Monday and Tuesday at the NIAA 3A State Championships in Truckee, The squad played at the par- 71 Schaffer’s Mill Golf Course. Lowry finished fourth in the two-day tournament, with a team score of 788. The Lady Bucks shot 388 on the second day but could not make up any ground.
The University of Nevada men’s basketball team was picked to three-peat as Mountain West Champions in 2018-19. The poll of MW media members was released by the conference office today. Four members of the team; Jordan Caroline, Caleb Martin, Cody Martin and Jordan Brown were also honored by the MW media.
The Lowry High School boys soccer team hosted a pair of games last week during Homecoming.
The Lowry High School volleyball squad took care of business on Friday night by dispatching Sparks in straight sets (25-8, 25-13, 25-14). Brooke Hansen had 11 kills and three blocks for the Lady Bucks, while Sierra Maestrejuan contributed 26 digs.
The Lowry High School football team got roughed up by Elko on Friday night 42-13.
The Winnemucca Junior High School seventh-grade girls basketball team dominated in their final two games of the season at home. McDermitt suffered a 45-3 loss to WJHS.
The Winnemucca Junior High School eighth-grade girls basketball team finished up their season with three more wins at home. The Warriors only lost one game this year.
