The Winnemucca Events Complex was the site of the 9th annual Western States Ranch Rodeo Association National Finals last weekend. “I work on a ranch with livestock and I like that we can compete in a Ranch Rodeo using those skills," said competitor Desi Dotson from Paradise Valley. "This event is a good way for Winnemucca to support all of the ranches in our community.”
The NIAA 3A Cross Country State Championship was held at Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City last weekend and Lowry had four runners participate.
The Lowry High School girls soccer squad finished its season last Friday by delivering a 2-1 loss to Elko on their home field. The Indians and Bucks each had a goal in the first half, but Lowry notched another one in the second for the win.

The Lowry High School boys soccer team dropped a pair of home games to finish its season last week with a 4-13-1 league record. On Thursday, the Buckaroos suffered a 4-0 loss at the hands of the Spartans from Spring Creek.
There was one thing on the mind of the Lowry High School football team as it traveled to Elko last Thursday for the opening round of the Northern 3A playoffs. Redemption. Lowry hosted Elko just a couple weeks earlier for its Homecoming game and was soundly defeated by the Indians 42-13.
Last Friday, the Buckaroo cross country squad represented Lowry High School well at the 3A Regional meet at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno. "This the worst race of the season for me because so much is riding on it," said LHS coach Kathy Norcutt of the race. "None of our races during the season really matter, you just have to get through this one to get to state.”
The Winnemucca Junior High School eighth-grade boys basketball team crushed Elko's Adobe Middle School on the road last weekend 50-22 to start its season out strong.
The Winnemucca Junior High School seventh-grade boys basketball team played its first game of the season at Elko last weekend against the Jaguars. The Warriors emerged victorious with a 59-21 win on the road.
Gail Piquet, Mary Lou Curti, and Vicki Celio all tied for the win by shooting 79 in the Ladies Golf Club Scramble Tournament at the Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course on Tuesday.
University of Nevada senior Caleb Martin has been selected to the Associated Press preseason All-America team, released today. He is the first Nevada player to earn preseason AP All-America honors. Last week Martin was named to the 2019 Julius Erving Award watch list. The award recognizes the top small forward in Division I men’s college basketball.
The third annual Battle Born Football Classic will be held Nov. 9-11 in Winnemucca. Sixteen teams from Winnemucca, Lovelock, Battle Mountain, Elko, Spring Creek and Yerington will compete in three different age brackets. This event was first held in Elko with only six teams and grew to 11 last year in Battle Mountain.
Cars of all shapes and sizes competed in Winnemucca on Friday and Saturday at the Winnemucca Regional Raceway. Action on Sunday featured the Off Road Carnival where you could run the trail like the big dogs do.
