The McDermitt High School girls basketball squad headed north to the Crane Christmas Tournament in Crane, Ore., on Friday, Dec. 14, to take on North Lake (Silver Lake, Ore.) and emerged with a 61-33 victory.
Fresh off a strong effort in its home tournament, the Lowry High School wrestling squad headed off to Lovelock on Saturday, Dec. 15 to test their mettle against 30 other teams in the Lovelock Mustangs Invitational.
The McDermitt High School boys basketball team went to Susanville, Calif., last weekend to participate in the Lassen High School Tournament. The Bulldogs faced some tough competition from several California teams and came home empty handed. “Susanville has a cool older gym, it kind of looks like an air hanger," said MHS coach Jack Smith. "But, they have a brand new floor. Everyone there was asking us when we arrived, ‘Where is McDermitt?’ We came in a big charter bus with our name on the outside of it, so it was kind of cool; we felt like rock stars.”
The Lowry High School freshmen girls basketball team made its home debut last Friday and beat North Valleys 57-10. The Lady Bucks travel to Spring Creek Friday and Elko Saturday.
The Lowry High School freshmen boys basketball team collected a pair of victories this past weekend in its home debut. Lowry came from behind on Friday to beat North Valleys 40-34 and the Buckaroos completed the sweep with a 43-26 win over Truckee on Saturday. Lowry travels to Spring Creek on Friday and Elko Saturday.

The Lowry High School junior varsity boys basketball team cruised to two victories in its home debut this past weekend. Lowry beat North Valleys 67-37 on Friday and Truckee 60-22 on Saturday. The Buckaroos play Spring Creek on Friday and Elko on Saturday.
The Lowry High School girls basketball squad came home last weekend for its first league games and started out with a bang. The Lady Bucks won both of the games against North Valleys and Truckee. In the 52-7 victory over North Valleys, Lowry dominated the first quarter 27-0 and they led at halftime 42-1. The game was played with a running clock from the second quarter to the finish
The Lowry High School boys basketball team opened up the Northern 3A season at home and stormed to a 2-0 start. The Bucks had dropped their first two games of the season against Reno and Heritage, before bouncing back to defeat Damonte Ranch and Sparks; starting the year 2-2 in non-conference play.

The McDermitt High School (MHS) girls basketball squad went to the Comstock Classic in Virginia City last week and dominated the competition. On Thursday, Dec. 6, the Lady Bulldogs crushed Pahranagat Valley (Alamo) 50-11 in their second matchup of the season. MHS previously downed the Panthers 56-24 on Dec. 1 at the WREC Classic in Wells.
One of the hot topics on the agenda for the 2018 Winter Season meeting of the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association Board of Control (NIAA) was fan behavior. The regularly scheduled quarterly meeting was held at the Nugget Casino in Sparks, on Dec. 10-11.

The Bulldogs lost to Pahranagat Valley (Alamo) on Thursday, Dec. 6, in the first game of the tournament 56-39. The defeat to the Panthers dropped them to 0-5 on the year.
