Lowry girls soccer rallies to beat Spring Creek, defeated by Elko

After getting off to a slow start against Spring Creek on Tuesday, Oct. 4, the Lowry High School girls soccer team rallied in the second half for a much needed 4-1 victory in the Northern 3A East.

The Lowry High School boys soccer team rounded out the first half of the Northern 3A East schedule with a pair of losses. The Buckaroos traveled to Spring Creek on Tuesday, Oct. 4, and suffered a 1-0 loss to the Spartans.

Lady Bulldogs drop Northern 1A East matches to Eureka, Wells

The McDermitt High School volleyball team was back in action this past weekend with a pair of Northern 1A East matches. The Lady Bulldogs made the long trip to Eureka on Friday to finish the season series with the Vandals and lost in three sets 25-12, 25-22 and 25-9. McDermitt made the quick turnaround on Saturday afternoon and hosted Wells.

Melissa Murphy shot a low-gross score of 37 to win the first flight of the Winnemucca Ladies Golf Club Eclectic tournament held Tuesday, Oct. 4, at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course.

Buckaroos’ Lara places sixth at home cross country meet

Lowry High School senior Ivan Lara turned in a sixth-place finish this past Friday on the 3.1-mile trek at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course, as the Buckaroos held their annual invitational.  Lara stopped the clock at 17 minutes, 41 seconds, a personal best for him.  Spring Creek had seven of the top-10 finishers including the top two spots with Joel Herman winning at 16:15 and Nathan Thomas (16:37) placing second.

Lowry volleyball splits with Dayton, Fernley

The Lowry High School volleyball tram hit the road for the first time in Northern 3A East play and saw its eight-match winning streak come to an end this past Friday with a 25-23, 25-16 and 25-22 loss to Dayton.

Rugby hits the field in Winnemucca

The inaugural Winnemucca Cup was played in a two-series event that started on Oct. 1 and will continue Oct. 22. The high desert of northern Nevada is the setting to determine the seeding and who will be the Western United States 9s men’s champion. Winnemucca will also crown the USA Women’s 9s National Champion.                                                              

Battle Mountain splits with Silver Stage, Yerington

For the first time since the end of August, the Battle Mountain High School volleyball team was back on its home floor. The Lady Longhorns celebrated homecoming week with matches against Silver Stage and Yerington. Battle Mountain swept the Nighthawks on Friday 25-17, 25-21, 25-20 and lost to Yerington 25-15, 25-14 and 25-14 and are now 3-4 in the Northern 2A and 8-11 overall.

Ladycats bite the Mustangs

A storm blew into Lovelock from Ely on Saturday morning.  The Pershing County High School girls soccer hosted White Pine and lost 7-0. 

Pershing County volleyball beats Incline

The Pershing County High School volleyball team settled an old score on Friday night.  As Mustang fans may remember, Incline beat the Mustangs twice last season and won the league championship. The Mustangs set a goal of beating them this year.

Battle Mountain golfers take to the course in Wendover

The Battle Mountain High School girls golf team traveled to West Wendover on Wednesday, Sept. 28, to play at Toana Vista Golf Course. That will be the same site for the Northern 2A East Regional Championship on Oct. 13.

Ladies Golf results —

Gail Piquet shot a low-gross score of 90 to win the first flight of the Winnemucca Ladies Golf Cub Gross/Net tournament held Wednesday, Sept. 28, at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course. Vicki Celio was second in the first flight at 107.

Pershing County picks up league win in Tahoe City

Many spectators expected a one-sided victory for the Pershing County High School football team against North Tahoe.  They were in for a surprise. The Mustangs traveled to Tahoe City on Saturday and beat the Lakers 28-20.  "We were able to secure the victory but shot ourselves in the foot many times. It definitely was not our best performance but credit to North Tahoe for playing a great game," coach Mike Brooks said.

Lowry boys soccer team picks up first win of the season

The Lowry High School boys soccer team turned in its best performances of the season this past weekend on its home field. The Buckaroos notched their first win of the year, with an 8-0 victory over Dayton on Frida afternoon. Lowry played to a 0-0 tie on Saturday afternoon and say its Northern 3A East record even out at 1-1-1.

Lowry girls pick up a pair of league road victories

After sitting home and practicing for much of September, the Lowry High School soccer team is now making up for the time off in a big way. The Lady Bucks were on the road last week for four matches, which included two crossover games and two in the Northern 3A East.  Lowry went 2-1-1 in those four matches to improve to 3-0 in the Northern 3A East, 1-2-1 in crossover matches and 5-5-1 overall.
