McDermitt volleyball splits with Carlin, Jackpot

The McDermitt High School volleyball team split a pair of Northern 1A East matches this past weekend at home.  The Lady Bulldogs beat Carlin 25-19, 25-16, 25-12 on Friday to complete the season sweep of the Railroaders.  McDermitt hosted Jackpot on Saturday and lost 25-21, 25-20, 27-25 and are now 2-6 overall and 2-5 in league play. Against Jackpot, McDermitt came out on a hot streak with nine of the first 10 points of the opening set. Cierra Smart started off the run with a hit in the open floor, Breena Crutcher added a kill and Nicolette Northrup had two aces.

Battle Mountain blanks Coral Academy in Reno

The Battle Mountain High School football team got back on the winning track with a convincing 49-0 win over Coral Academy this past Friday night at Damonte Ranch High School in Reno

Lady Longhorns drop three league matches

The Battle Mountain High School girls soccer team dropped three matches in Northern 2A play last week. The Lady Longhorns hosted Pershing County on Wednesday, Oct. 12, and lost 2-0 to the Mustangs. The match was tied 0-0 at halftime, when Pershing County scored in the 58th minute. 

Lowry boys soccer team splits with Truckee, Churchill County

The Lowry High School boys soccer team picked up its second win the Northern 3A East last week with a 2-1 win over Churchill County on Wednesday, Oct. 12, on senior day in Winnemucca.

Melissa Murphy and Gail Piquet each shot a low gross score of 72 to tie for first place in the first flight of the Winnemucca ladies Golf Club Pro’s Posse tournament held Wednesday, Oct. 12, at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course.

Churchill County knocks off Lowry in five sets

A year ago, the finish in the Northern 3A volleyball season was a crazy one, with everyone seemingly beating everyone and shaking up the standings. The second half of the Northern 3A schedule began last week and the league might be in for the same kind of finish in 2022.  Lowry High School traveled to Fallon on Tuesday, Oct. 11, to take on Churchill County, who came into the match winless in the Northern 3A East at 0-5.  The Lady Bucks already beat the Greenwave earlier in the year in four sets. 

Cassinelli earns first-team Northern 3A honors

Lowry High School sophomore Katie Cassinelli earned Northern 3A first-team honors, as the regular season of the girls golf season came to and end last week in Lake Tahoe. Freshman teammate Lainey Novacek was named to the second team. Cassinelli and Novacek competed at the NIAA 3A State Championships that were held Monday and Tuesday at Genoa Lakes Golf Club.  Results were not available at press time.

Lowry splits with Spring Creek, Elko

It was a rollercoaster of a week for the Lowry High School volleyball team. The Lady Bucks experienced the lows and highs of the sport in a matter of a couple of days.

PCHS volleyball splits matches

The PCHS volleyball team played two league matches last week, one on the road and one at home. On Friday they traveled to Yerington and lost in three sets 25-13, 25-22, 25-23.

Longhorns suffer first loss in Northern 2A action

The Battle Mountain High School football team took to the road last Friday with the tough task of taking on the defending 2A state champion Yerington Lions.

Battle Mountain girls defeat West Wendover, knocked off by Yerington, Sage Ridge

The Battle Mountain High School girls soccer team picked up one win and two losses in its last three matches. The Lady Longhorns were at home on Saturday, Oct. 1, and beat West Wendover 4-0 for their first Northern 2A victory of the season.  Battle Mountain scored three times in the first 40 minutes of play and never looked back.

Longhorns take to the course in Winnemucca

The Battle Mountain High School cross country team made the short trip to Winnemucca on Friday afternoon for the Lowry Invitational at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course. Battle Mountain freshmen Ivy Petersen was 16th in the girls varsity race with a time of 28 minutes, 2 seconds and senior Lilly Peterson placed 18th at 36:30.

Pershing County girls soccer drops two league games

No matter the score, the Pershing County girls soccer team works hard. On Friday they traveled to Reno to play Sage Ridge.  The Scorpions beat the Mustangs 10-2. 

Lowry falls to Fernley

The Lowry High School football team dropped its second game in the Northern 3A East after a road trip to Fernley this past Friday. The Vaqueros scored two quick touchdowns on their way to a 41-14 win over the Buckaroos. Lowry dropped to 1-2 in the Northern 3A East at 5-2 overall. Turnovers plagued Lowry in the early going, fumbling the opening kickoff of the contest. The Vaqueros quickly turned it into seven points with a 29-yard touchdown run.

PCHS football update

The Pershing County Mustangs are back from a week off. They’ll host West Wendover on Thursday,  at 7 p.m. The JV boys travel to Elko on Friday.  On Thursday, Oct. 20, the Mustangs travel to rival school Battle Mountain at 7 p.m.. The Mustangs are 4-2 overall and tied for second at 3-1 in the Northern 2A with Battle Mountain.
