Members of the Battle Mountain High School were in Spring Creek this past Thursday for the Northeastern Nevada JV Championships at Spring Creek Golf Course. Freshman Eli Colver finished 11th with a time of 20 minutes, 39.03 seconds, with teammate and fellow freshman Sean Doney stopping the clock at 22:15.39 to place 18th.
Stephanie Crawford shot a low gross score of 44 to win the first flight of the Winnemucca Ladies Golf Club eclectic tournament held Tuesday, Oct. 18, at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course.
Jenna Chopp shot a two-day total of 250 to lead the way for the Battle Mountain High School girls golf team at the NIAA 2A State Girls Golf Championships held at Ruby View Golf Course in Elko on Oct. 18-19.
Lowry High School sophomore Katie Cassinelli finished ninth at the NIAA 3A State Girls Golf Championships held Oct. 17-18 at Genoa Lakes Golf Club. Cassinelli shot equal rounds of 88 for a two-day total of 176. Teammate Lainey Novacek finished 35th with scores of 146 and 134 for a total of 280. Douglas won the state title for the second year in a row, finishing with a 665.
As the regular season comes to an end this week, the Lowry High School volleyball team is looking to position itself for the best possible playoff spot for the Northern 3A Regional Championships at Hug High School on Nov. 4-5.
The Pershing County High School football team capped their senior night with a 56-0 win over visiting West Wendover.
It's all about mind over matter for the Pershing County volleyball team. They won two away matches this past week. On Friday they beat Battle Mountain 25-27, 25-15, 23-25, 25-22, 15-13. On Saturday, they traveled to West Wendover and won 25-16, 26-24, 22-25, 25-19. With the wins Pershing County improved to 14-7 overall and 9-2 in the Northern 2A. They remain third in the league behind North Tahoe and Yerington.
It was a rollicking road week for the Pershing County High School soccer team. On Wednesday they beat Battle Mountain with a final score of 2-0. Friday, they traveled to Incline and lost to the Highlanders 6-2. On Saturday, Pershing County lost 15-0 to the North Tahoe Lakers, the defending 2A state champions. For the week, the Mustangs added four goals, bringing their season total to 20.
After nearly a month away, the Lowry High School football team returned to Jerry Tobin this past Friday night for homecoming against Spring Creek. The Buckaroos were coming off losses to Elko and Fernley on the road and needed a win against the Spartans to remain in playoff contention. The visitors from Elko County had other ideas and ended Lowry’s playoff hops with a 26-6 win.
Lowry High School senior Ivan Lara finished seventh this past Friday afternoon at the Wells Invitational on the 3.1-mile Chimney Creek Golf Course. Lara stopped the clock at 18 minutes, 58 seconds.
Members of the Battle Mountain NNA swim team were in Roseville, Calif. for the California Capital Aquatics Spook-Tacular from Oct. 7-9. Nevaeh Serna was fourth in the girls 12 and under division in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2 minutes, 48.76 seconds, which was a 1.13-second improvement over her previous best time.
The Battle Mountain High School cross country team was in Wells this past Friday on the 3.1-mile course at Chimney Creek Golf Course. Junior Julian Sosa was 51st in the boys varsity race in a time of 25 minutes, 56 seconds.
The Battle Mountain High School girls golf team finished fourth at the Northern 2A East Regional Championship on Thursday, Oct. 13, at Toana Vista Golf Course.
The Lowry High School girls soccer team remained in postseason contention with a 1-1 tie against Churchill County on Tuesday, Oct. 11, in Fallon. The Greenwave led 1-0 at halftime, but the Lady Bucks picked up the equalizing goal in the second half a shot by Alia Novi and an assist by Britain Backus.
The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team was busy last week with three Northern 3A matches, all in Battle Mountain. The Lady Longhorns took on North Tahoe on Tuesday, Oct. 11, and lost 25-12, 25-13 and 25-9 to the Lakers.
