Nevada football team announces future games with Penn State, Troy

Nevada Football announced two future non-conference opponents, including season openers for the 2024 and 2025 seasons. The Wolf Pack will visit Penn State, Aug. 30, 2025, and will play a home-and-home series with Troy, with the 2024 opener taking place Aug. 31 at Troy, and the Trojans visiting Reno, Sept. 13, 2031.

Four Lowry football players earn Northern 3A East second-team, all-league honors

The Lowry High School football team had four players named to the Northern 3A East all-league, second-team honors, which is selected by the league coaches. Braden Hammargren was selected as a kicker, David Walker on the offensive line, Brennan Colman on the defensive line and Lance Brinegar at defensive back.

Lowry’s Stoker earns Northern 3A, Northern 3A East first-team honors

Lowry High School junior Savannah Stoker was named to the Northern 3A and Northern 3A East first-team, all-league volleyball team for her play this fall.  The all-league teams are selected by the coaches. The Lady Bucks finished the year 19-9 overall and in second place in the Northern 3A East at 6-4. Lowry reached the Northern 3A Regional Tournament but lost in the opening round in five sets to Spring Creek. The Spartans eventually reached he state tournament.

Billy DeLong, Matti DeLong win at Moapa High School rodeo

The Nevada High School Rodeo Association wrapped up its fall scheduled over the Veterans Day weekend at the Moapa High School rodeo in Overton.

David Walker selected to play in 2023 dream All-American Bowl

Lowry High School’s David Walker was nominated and accepted into the 2023 Dream All-American Bowl taking place on Jan. 16, 2023, at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys.

Novi, Pettis, Brinkerhoff named to Northern 3A East first team

Lowry High School’s Alia Novi, Sydnee Pettis and Bryce Brinkerhoff were named to the Northern 3A East girls soccer all-league, first team, which is chosen by the league coaches.

Battle Mountain NNA swim team competes at state championships

The Battle Mountain NNA swim team was in Henderson from Nov. 10-13 for the 2022 Nevada State Short Course Championships at Heritage Park Aquatics Center. There were 733 swimmers that competed over four days in cold conditions in southern Nevada. Sandpiper from Las Vegas, which had 472 swimmers won the team title. 

Three former Lowry cross country runners competing at NAIA national championships

Three former Lowry High School cross country runners will be competing at the NAIA National Championships on Friday in Tallahassee, Fla. Will Kracaw is a member of the College of Idaho cross country team that finished second at the 2022 Cascade Collegiate Conference Cross Country Championships. 

Lovelock 12U team battles Carson for title in double overtime loss

To the Lovelock 12U football team it’s all about attitude and effort. That’s their motto. Coaches Lee Houston and Phillip Dickerman led a roster of 17 players through five regular season games, the playoffs and the championship match. 

Green, Holani help Boise St. beat Nevada 41-3

Taylen Green passed for a touchdown and ran for another score in the first quarter, George Holani finished with 17 carries for 115 yards and two TDs to help Boise State beat Nevada 41-3 Saturday night.

Pershing County football closes season with playoff loss against The Meadows

The Pershing County Mustangs came home from Las Vegas without a trophy but holding their heads high after a successful season. 

Pershing County knocks off Battle Mountain in regional playoffs

On Friday on Yanni Field in Lovelock, another chapter of the rivalry between Battle Mountain and Lovelock played out. It was Lovelock’s first home playoff game since 2018. At stake? Nothing less than a shot at the 2022 Class 2A State Football Championship.  Pershing County came out on top with a final score of 50-19.

Nevada High School Rodeo Association makes stop in Alamo

The Nevada High School Rodeo Association made a stop in southern Nevada in Alamo on Oct. 29-30. Humboldt County’s Billy DeLong and Cooper Hill were first and second, respectively, in the boys cutting average. DeLong won both performances of the vent to earn 144 points. Hill was two points back with 142.

Lara runs at NIAA 3A State Cross Country Championships

Lowry High School senior Ivan Lara placed 15th at the NIAA 3A State Cross Country Championships held this past Saturday at Veterans Park in Boulder City.
