Pershing County High School sent six wrestlers to the Spring Creek Kiwanis Invitational Tournament last weekend. “It was their toughest match of the season so we were excited for the challenge,” said coach Mike Brooks. Pershing County’s wrestlers included Xavier Weatherman at 120 pounds, Tavis Lawrence (132), Jeffrey Elerick (132), Angelo Gibson (132), Wyatt Hughes (157) and Logan Hunt (215).
The Lowry High School girls basketball team split a pair of games in the road this past weekend in Lyon County. The Lady Bucks defeated Dayton 52-14 on Friday night, as junior Savannah Stoker surpassed the 1,00-point mark in her career. In a battle for the top spot in the Northern 3A, Lowry traveled to Fernley on Saturday and lost 58-31. The Lady Bucks are 2-1 in the Northern 3A East and 14-2 overall.
The Lowry High School wrestling team made the short trip to Spring Creek this past weekend for the Kiwanis Invitational. Jhett Harber led the way for the Buckaroos with a fourth-place finish at 157 pounds. Coda Nichols and Luke Fentress finished fifth at 113 pounds and 165, respectively and Damon Fetty placed sixth at 160 pounds.
The Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team suffered its first league loss of the season as it traveled to Incline Village this past Friday. Incline jumped out to a quick 20-7 lead after eight minutes of play and beat the Longhorns 69-36 to drop Battle Mountain to 2-1 in the Northern 2A and 6-5 overall.
Even though they are different teams this year, the Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team knocked off Incline 50-26, the reigning 2A state champions, this past weekend in Incline Village.
The McDermitt High School boys basketball team dropped a pair of Eastern 1A home games this past weekend. The Bulldogs took on Owyhee on Friday night and lost 64-25 and were back home on Saturday afternoon against Carlin, where the Railroaders won 43-36. McDermitt dropped to 0-4 in league play and 1-14 overall.
The McDermitt High School girls basketball team continued its dominant start to the Eastern 1A season with impressive wins over Owyhee and Carlin this past weekend. The Lady Bulldogs beat the Braves 55-20 and Railroaders 64-11 to improve to 4-0 in league play and 14-3 overall.

The McDermitt High School boys basketball team opened play in the Eastern 1A with a pair of road losses to Jackpot and Wells this past weekend. With the defeats, the Bulldogs dropped to 1-12 overall and 0-2 in league play.
The Lowry High School wrestling team split up its squad this past weekend, sending a group to Nampa, Idaho for the Rollie Lane Invitational and to Sparks for the Sparks Invitational. The Rollie Lane Invitational featured over 70 teams and is considered one of the tougher tournaments in the West. Marcas Ricci at 120 pounds reached the consolation fourth round for the Buckaroos. He opened the tournament with a first-period pin in 16 seconds over Ashten Beverlin of Middleton. Ricci followed that with a 12-0 victory over Bryan Madigral of Sunnyside.

There’s nothing like beating the defending state champions in the first league game of a new year. The Lady Mustangs hosted Incline last Friday and beat them 59-15. To add to the excitement Taylor Garland sank a half-court shot on her first try during the boys halftime.
The Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team started 2023 on a high with three wins last week to improve to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in the Northern 2A. After a long layoff, the Longhorns returned to the floor on Monday, Jan. 3, with a road trip to Wells and they beat the Leopards 69-38 in the non-conference meeting.
After almost a month without games, the Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team was back on the floor for three contests last week. The Lady Longhorns made their home debut this past weekend, opening Northern 2A play against Silver Stage on Friday night and Yerington on Saturday afternoon.
