The Lowry High School boys basketball team picked up two much-needed wins last week as the regular season concludes this week. Lowry traveled to South Tahoe on Tuesday, Jan. 31, and knocked off the Northern 3A West leader 46-34. The Buckaroos were back home this past weekend to celebrate Winterfest and routed Dayton 65-35 on Friday night. The Buckaroos lost 59-56 to Northern 3A East leader Fernley on Saturday afternoon. Lowry is now 9-12 overall, 2-6 in the Northern 3A East and 6-0 against the Northern 3A West.
The Lowry High School girls basketball team hit the 20-win plateau for the second straight season, after picking up two wins in three games last week. The Lady Bucks made the long trip to South Tahoe on Tuesday, Jan. 31, and came back home with a 68-27 victory.
The Lowry High School wrestling team will have eight grapplers on its home mats this weekend, as Winnemucca hosts the NIAA State Wrestling Championships on Friday and Saturday at the Winnemucca Event Center. The Buckaroos’ Jhett Haber at 157 pounds and Luke Fentress (165) won individu-al titles at the Northern 3A Regional Championships this past weekend at Wooster High School in Reno.
The Battle Mountain High School wrestling team added more hardware to its trophy case and continued to stay atop the Northern 2A, after winning the Northern 2A Regional Championship this past Saturday in Lovelock. The Longhorns had seven individual champions on the day and won the team title with 216 points, followed by Herrington (147), Eureka (139), Coral Academy (113) and Wells (87).
Get ready for a big sports weekend at PCHS. Lovelock hosts the Northern 2A Regional Wrestling Championships on Saturday. Six Mustang wrestlers hope to qualify for the state tournament in Winnemucca on Feb. 10 -11.
The McDermitt High School boys basketball team dropped a pair of Eastern 1A games on the road this past weekend. The Bulldogs traveled to Owyhee on Friday night and lost 55-28 to the Braves. Owyhee led 46-12 at halftime.
The Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team moved itself into third place in the Northern 2A at 6-3 with a pair of road wins this past weekend in Lyon County.
Not Team 1 took home the Next Home Shootout title held Jan. 21-22 at Spare Time Bowl. Next Home Reality helped sponsor the tournament and there were 16 teams that bowled in the tournament.
Battle Mountain’s High School’s Jennifer Galvan finished second at 185 pounds in the Northern Nevada Wrestling Regional Qualifier this past Saturday at McQueen High School in Reno
It was a mixed bag of results for the Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team with its road trip to Lyon County this past weekend. The Lady Longhorns were in Silver Springs on Friday night and beat Silver Stage 42-11.
The Lowry High School boys basketball team had its opportunities to pick up a pair of wins on the road last week but saw victories took away from them in Elko and Fallon. The Buckaroos were in Elko on Tuesday, Jan. 24, and lost 54-50 to the Indians. Lowry made the trip to Fallon this past Friday and suffered a 55-46 loss to Churchill County.
The McDermitt High School girls basketball team continue to cruise through the Eastern 1A, with two more wins on the road this past weekend. The Lady Bulldogs had little trouble with Owyhee on Friday night, winning 60-34. McDermitt finished the sweep of the weekend, beating Carlin 49-19 to improve to 6-1 in the Eastern 1A and 17-4 overall.
The Battle Mountain High School wrestling team took home the Northern 2A duals title that took place last week. The Longhorns went undefeated as a team in the duals. The Longhorns travel to Lovelock on Saturday for the Northern 2A Regional Championship at Pershing County High School. The top three finishers in each weight class advance to the NIAA State Championships in Winnemucca Feb. 10-11.
The Lowry High School wrestling team finished with a 9-2 record at the Northern 3A duals held this past weekend at Spring Creek High School. The only losses the Buckaroos suffered were to Fernley and Elko. “The loss to Fernley stings a little, simply because we beat them a little over a week ago,” said LHS coach John Brooks. “I’ll certainly give credit to them. They are on the rise.”
The Lowry High School girls basketball team held its second-place spot in the Northern 3A East with a pair of road wins last week. The Lady Bucks traveled to Elko on Tuesday, Jan. 24, and beat Elko 56-43 after leading by as many as 21 points. Lowry made its way to Fallon this past Friday and beat Churchill County 57-24.
